Legal Assistant (EXPERIENCE REQUIRED)


We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will have previous experience supporting attorneys and will be responsible for providing comprehensive secretarial, administrative, and clerical support to ensure the smooth operation of our legal services. Key Responsibilities:

- Perform a broad range of secretarial, administrative, and clerical duties for one or more attorneys

- Organize, maintain, and manage all legal files and documentation

- Coordinate and schedule appointments, meetings, and court dates

- Prepare and manage correspondence related to litigation and administrative matters

- Assist with the preparation of legal documents and filings

- Ensure timely follow-up on deadlines and commitments

- Support attorneys in managing calendars and case-related activities

- Handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism


Skills and Qualifications:

- Previous experience as a Legal Assistant or in a similar legal support role

- Strong organizational and time-management skills

- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities

- Proficiency in legal software and Microsoft Office Suite

- Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and accurately

- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills

- Knowledge of legal terminology and procedures is preferred

- High school diploma or equivalent; additional legal training or certification is a plus

Requirements:

Seeking a Legal Assistant with experience in Workers Comp and/or Personal Injury for our 70-year-old law firm in The Loop.


The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Ordering and following up on requests for medical records and bills
  • Preparing medical bill evaluations on injury cases
  • Assisting attorney with disbursement of funds once case settles
  • Mailing, faxing, or arranging for delivery of legal correspondence to clients, witnesses, and court officials
  • Receiving and placing telephone calls; scheduling and making appointments
  • Assisting with office administrative duties by making photocopies of correspondence, documents, and other printed matters
  • Organizing and maintaining documents and case files
  • Assisting attorneys in collecting information relevant to caseloads
  • Attending legal meetings to take notes, such as client interviews, hearings, or depositions
  • Drafting and typing office memos
  • Completing various forms, such as accident reports, trial and courtroom requests, and applications for clients
  • Performing other work-related duties as assigned
