Job Overview

The Interior Selections Designer is responsible for guiding homeowners through interior and exterior finish selections for new residential construction projects. This role balances design expertise with construction knowledge to ensure selections align with budgets, schedules, building standards, and client expectations while maintaining a cohesive design vision throughout the home.


Job Duties and Responsibilities

Client Experience & Design Guidance

  • Work with homeowners to coordinate exterior and interior selections for new homes, townhomes and remodels.
  • Work with internal team on model home selections and design.
  • Meet with homeowners to present, explain, and assist with interior finish selections, including but not limited to flooring, cabinetry, countertops, tile, paint colors, fixtures, hardware, and lighting.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to understand their needs, preferences, and budget constraints, ensuring their vision aligns with the design plan.
  • Translate client preferences into cohesive, buildable design packages.
  • Educate clients on material options, durability, maintenance, and pricing implications.
  • Manage selection timelines to keep projects on schedule.

Documentation & Coordination

  • Prepare and maintain detailed selection documentation, specifications, and change orders.
  • Communicate finalized selections clearly to project managers, superintendents, and trade partners.
  • Verify selections comply with building plans, codes, and company standards.
  • Review and resolve discrepancies between design intent and construction execution.

Vendor & Product Management

  • Maintain relationships with suppliers, showrooms, and manufacturers.
  • Stay current on product availability, lead times, pricing, and discontinued items.
  • Coordinate samples, pricing updates, and product substitutions when needed.

Quality Control & Project Support

  • Assist with final walkthroughs and address selection-related questions or issues.
  • Support construction staff by clarifying design intent and specifications.
  • Help resolve homeowner concerns related to selections before and after installation.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Cabinet Design experience desired.
  • Design software experience (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Mosaic, SketchUp, Adobe Suite, or other design programs).
  • Strong knowledge of residential design trends and materials.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work well in a team and collaborate effectively with design team, clients, and vendors.
  • A passion for cohesive design and a strong eye for detail and color.
  • Confident presenter with a homeowner focused mindset.

Education and Experience

  • Associates or bachelors degree in interior design, interior architecture or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in residential interior design, selections, or construction related design.
  • Strong understanding of residential construction processes and materials
  • Excellent organizational, communication and client service skills.
  • Experience working for a residential builder or design-build firm preferred.
