Pulaski County Public Schools is seeking a highly organized, customer-focused professional to serve as our Benefits Specialist/Human Resources Office Assistant. This position plays a vital role in supporting employees throughout their employment by administering employee benefits while providing comprehensive administrative support to the Human Resources Department.
The ideal candidate enjoys helping others, maintains strict confidentiality, is detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced office environment.

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Human Resources, the Benefits Specialist/HR Office Assistant administers employee benefit programs, assists with onboarding and employment processes, maintains confidential personnel records, and provides administrative support for daily Human Resources operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Benefits Administration:
Administer employee benefit programs including health, dental, vision, life insurance, flexible spending accounts, and voluntary benefits.
Coordinate employee enrollments, qualifying life events, and annual Open Enrollment.
Assist employees with benefit questions and resolve coverage issues.
Serve as liaison between employees and insurance providers.
Process benefit changes accurately and timely, and balance monthly medical benefits statements.
Maintain benefit records and documentation.
Assist with COBRA administration as applicable.
Coordinate retirement benefit information with VRS. 







Assist employees with leave-related benefits. FMLA, Workers Compensation, Short Term Disability.


Human Resources Responsibilities:
Assist with onboarding new employees.
Maintain confidential personnel files.
Process employment verifications.
Process fingerprinting/background checks.
Coordinate employee badges.
Maintain HRIS records.
Administrative Support:
Answer phones and greet visitors.
Respond to employee inquiries.
Maintain filing systems.
Backup for front office Administrative Assistant
Assist with HR projects.













Qualifications

Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Associate degree preferred.
Five years of administrative experience.
Microsoft Office proficiency.
Strong organization, communication, confidentiality, and customer service skills.
Preferred:
HR or Benefits experience.
Public school/local government experience.
Knowledge of VRS, Munis, Frontline, and Vector.

Attention to detail, interpersonal skills, professional judgment, independent work ethic, problem-solving ability, policy interpretation, customer service, and confidentiality.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit for extended periods, frequent computer use, occasional lifting up to 25 pounds, and ability to move throughout school facilities.

Salary:

Based on the Pulaski County Public Schools SBO Office Assistant II salary scale and commensurate with education and experience.
