Authentic Relationships

At Deep Roots Charter School, we take the time to know our students and their families โ€“ their backgrounds, purpose, and passion โ€“ and provide a variety of experiences from leadership to mentoring, to social-emotional learning and multiple clubs within the school day.

Personalized Learning

Every child receives individualized attention tailored to their unique learning needs and strengths. Deep Roots maximizes various learning styles and prioritizes individual student support.

Our Core Values:

Practice: Each and every individual in our school community, from students to leadership, will engage in deliberate practice, and value this as the path to excellence.

Service: Our service-learning model will be discipline based; it will require students to have a presence in the community, and reflect on their experiences regularly.

Purpose: We want to empower our students to uncover their unique gifts and talents, and apply them towards an outward purpose about which they are passionate.

Antiracist & Inclusive:

We stand as an actively anti-racist organization, dedicated to supporting all students and families. We advocate for our communities and strive to dismantle barriers within and beyond our school walls.

Responsibilities & Duties

Deliver Engaging Science Instruction:

  • Plan and teach daily science lessons aligned with state standards and the school's curriculum.
  • Teach science to students across grades First through 6th grade on a rotating quarterly schedule.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies, hands-on experiments, inquiry-based learning, and collaborative activities to meet diverse student needs and learning styles.
  • Foster scientific thinking, curiosity, problem-solving, and a love for science.

Support Student Growth and Achievement:

  • Analyze student data to inform instruction and track progress toward academic goals.
  • Differentiate instruction and provide targeted support to meet the needs of all learners, including students requiring additional challenges or interventions.
  • Support students in developing critical thinking, scientific reasoning, and academic vocabulary.
  • Celebrate student achievements and encourage perseverance.

Create a Positive Classroom Culture:

  • Establish and maintain a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment that reflects the school's core values.
  • Use effective classroom management strategies to promote respect, empathy, and collaboration among students.
  • Model a growth mindset and foster a sense of belonging in the classroom.
  • Build strong relationships with students and families rooted in consistency, care, and high expectations.

Collaborate and Communicate:

  • Work closely with colleagues, families, and support staff to ensure the success of every student.
  • Collaborate with multiple grade-level teams throughout the year to ensure instructional alignment and student support.
  • Participate in professional development, team meetings, and school events to contribute to a strong school community.
  • Communicate regularly with families about student progress, successes, and challenges.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Supervise students during lunch, recess, and transitions as needed.
  • Participate in school-wide initiatives, events, and service-learning projects.
  • Support the development and organization of science materials, labs, and classroom resources.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the school's mission.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Science, or a related field required; Master's Degree preferred.
  • Valid Pennsylvania teaching certification (or eligibility for certification).
  • At least one year of teaching experience preferred, with demonstrated success in improving student outcomes.
