Job description

Under direct supervision assist underwriters in front line underwriting of an assigned territory. Evaluate new business, renewals and endorsements for personal auto, property and liability risks for acceptance or denial in accordance with Company Underwriting Guidelines and Philosophies. Demonstrate excellent clerical and technical skills. Interact with agents, other company personnel and outside vendors. Refer all items outside authority level to underwriter.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist underwriters with reviewing and evaluating new business, renewals and endorsements for Homeowner, Automobile, Personal Umbrella, and Dwelling Fire policies to determine acceptability within assigned authority level.
  • Process endorsements according to procedures, forwarding exceptions to an Underwriter for approval or additional processing.
  • Review renewal or rewrite policies for changes in risk according to established procedures, referring exceptions to an Underwriter for approval or additional processing.
  • Handle more routine mail and review for file documentation as needed.
  • Request additional or missing information on policies or endorsements from agents within established guidelines and procedures.
  • Must have a good understanding of Company policies, procedures and philosophies.
  • Order and review inspection reports and add appropriate documentation in the policy system.
  • Provide timely, courteous and efficient service regarding underwriting and related matters to agents and other company personnel.
  • Reviews and handles diary/come-up reports within established procedures and refer items that exceed binding authority to the Underwriter.
  • May be asked to handle MAIP policies and procedures.
  • Master new technology and promote all available tools during all communications with the agents.
  • Must have the ability to work independently and within a team atmosphere.
  • Continually seek to enhance your knowledge and be aware of changes in the Industry which may affect the company or agency plant.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree or the equivalent work experience in insurance.
  • 2 to 4 years' experience in P&C insurance, with at least 2 years practical exposure to assistant underwriting.
  • Experience in Cogen, Plis, Arbella.com, team track is helpful
  • Strong customer service, negotiation, time management and relationship building skills needed
  • Must be detailed oriented with good follow up.

Our current reasonable and good faith estimate of the annual salary or hourly wage range for this position is approximately $52,000 ($27.59 an hour) - $60,000 ($31.84 an hour) based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills and experience, educational background and certifications, performance and qualifications, market demand for the role and other organizational needs.
