Job Description
Dewberry has an immediate opportunity for an experienced Bridge/Tunnel Inspection Engineer in ourBoston, MA office with 5-15 years of bridge/tunnel inspection experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of bridge/tunnel inspection engineers and performing In-Service Bridge and Tunnel Inspections in Boston and throughout Massachusetts, and performing live-load ratings for vehicular and railroad bridges. This role will also include assisting in project management duties on several bridge and tunnel inspection contracts, including scope and fee development, scheduling, and interaction with clients.

Responsibilities
  • Perform in-service bridge and tunnel inspections on a variety of structure types.
  • Prepare for inspections by reviewing previous inspection reports, plans, and other documents.
  • Oversee the preparation of inspection reports in accordance with appropriate criteria.
  • Assign tasks to engineers, technicians or administrative staff.
  • Coordinate inspection activities by scheduling specialty access equipment, traffic control, police details and necessary permits.
  • Prepare scope, budgets, and schedules for bridge/tunnel inspection assignments.
  • Assist with proposals to provide professional services.
  • Direct interaction with the client.
  • Work outdoors in diverse weather conditions, at heights, in confined spaces, over water and in close proximity to traffic.
  • Working skill in the use of various inspection instruments.
  • Additional responsibilities may include participating in the design of simple and complex bridges and a variety of transportation related structures (retaining walls, culverts, sign structures and other miscellaneous structures). Bridge design work encompasses new and replacement bridges, and bridge rehabilitation/preservation.

Required Skills & Required Experience
  • BS in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of bridge/tunnel inspection experience.
  • Professional Engineering license is preferred.
  • Experience with MassDOT and/or MBTA is preferred.
  • Ability use of computers applications, bridge engineering software and AutoCAD.
  • Physical ability to perform field work around bridges and tunnels.
  • Completion of NHI Training Courses - Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges and Tunnel Safety Inspection.
  • Understanding of bridge safety inspection methods, structural behavior, deterioration characteristics of bridge materials, and bridge maintenance, repair and rehabilitation methods is preferred.
  • Experience with AASHTOWare Bridge Rating software is preferred.

Salary Range
The projected range for this position is $97,300 to $125,100 annually. Depending upon other factors, i.e., skills, experience, location, market conditions, the range may vary slightly. These ranges are for Boston, MA only.
