Job SummaryThe Sign Shop Technician supports daily operations within the sign department by assisting with the design, production, and application of traffic control signage. This role ensures all signage meets Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) standards and contributes to the preparation and decal application of Traffic Management, LLC equipment. The position combines technical production, inventory management, and collaboration with internal teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Create detailed layouts and proofs for both custom and MUTCD-compliant signage
- Design, produce, print, and ship signs and graphics using sign shop equipment and software
- Apply decals and graphics to company vehicles and equipment
- Collaborate with the estimating department to produce job-specific signage in accordance with approved plans
- Maintain accurate records of signage inventory and materials
- Assist with inventory counts and order supplies/materials, including submission of purchase orders
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Inspect and maintain equipment to ensure safe and proper operation
- Follow production schedules as assigned via the sign shop calendar
- Participate in after-hours or emergency response work as needed
Required Knowledge - Basic understanding of MUTCD standards and compliance requirements
- Familiarity with traffic sign design software applications
- Working knowledge of FlexiSign (or comparable design software)
- Basic construction skills, including use of hand and power tools (e.g., drills, saws)
- Understanding of standard sign codes, dimensions, and specifications

- Proficiency in vinyl weeding and decal preparation techniques
- Basic customer service and communication skills

Equipment Operated - Company vehicles (cars, trucks, flatbed trucks)
- Trailers and trailer-mounted warning signs
- Traffic control devices (cones, delineators, drums, barricades, signs, etc.)
- HP DesignJet Printer
- Graphtec Cutter (SP800-160 or similar)
- Compression roller and laminator
- Substrate cutter and aluminum shear
Physical Requirements and Work Environment - Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent use of hands for handling, controlling, and manipulating materials
- Exposure to outdoor conditions and construction environments
- Repetitive motion and manual tasks
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts, heavy equipment, and vehicular traffic
- Exposure to moderate noise levels
- Occasional exposure to chemicals (e.g., paint thinners, removers)
Education and Experience - High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Minimum of one (1) year of related experience preferred
