POSITION SUMMARY

The Associate General Counsel provides counsel to the General Conference, General Conference Corporation, ADRA, Hope Channel, and the North American Division.

 Area(s) of Emphasis – Religious Liberty, Litigation

COMPENSATION

  • Full-time exempt position with benefits
  • Remuneration Range: 130-156% (124K-149K)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Cooperates in the duties and responsibilities as assigned by the General Counsel.
  • On behalf of the Office of General Counsel, counsels the General Conference, the North American Division, the General Conference Corporation, ADRA, Hope Channel and other church entities and organizations in assigned areas of expertise or emphasis.
  • Performs backup functions to General Counsel as assigned.
  • Provides client services to General Conference departments and entities as assigned.
  • Oversees the policies and guidelines in areas of expertise on behalf of the organization.
  • Serves on boards and committees as assigned.
  • Must be a member in regular standing of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
  • Must maintain a regular and reliable work schedule.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Completion of the Juris Doctor (JD) degree in an American Bar Association accredited law school and current or future admission to the Maryland Bar required.
  • A minimum of three years in the practice of law and experience in and knowledge of church organization and administration is preferred.
  • Experience in practice areas strongly preferred.
  • Interest or experience in the areas of immigration, parliamentary procedure and/or data privacy is valued but not required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of beliefs and practices of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and the Working Policies of the General Conference and the North American Division. Knowledge of church structure, organization, and procedures preferred.
  • Advanced command of English language skills, including proficiency in verbal and written communication.
  • Ability in strategic planning, leadership, and organization.
  • Ability to perform administrative functions; develop long-and short-term plans and programs to effectively evaluate work accomplishments; establish and maintain effective relationships with internal/external personnel.
  • Must possess advanced ability to effectively present facts and recommendations in oral and written form.
