The Senior Controller is a newly created, hands‑on leadership role responsible for overseeing the enterprise services that support our continued growth. This role leads financial reporting, job costing, cash management, payroll review, compliance, and people operations systems, while directly managing the Controller and Bookkeeper.

Partnering closely with ownership and operations, the Senior Controller takes a roll‑up-your‑sleeves approach to strengthening financial processes, internal controls, and reporting. This role balances strategic oversight with day‑to‑day execution to support scalable, profitable growth. The ideal candidate brings well‑rounded financial and operational expertise, with the ability to build structure, improve visibility, and drive informed decision‑making across the organization.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead monthly close and produce accurate, timely financial statements for all entities
  • Track key financial metrics and provide analysis to support leadership decision‑making
  • Identify financial risks/opportunities and recommend corrective actions
  • Prepare financial reports for leadership as needed
Accounting Operations
  • Oversee general ledger, reconciliations, and day‑to‑day accounting functions across all LLCs
  • Ensure strong internal controls, accurate documentation, and consistent processes
  • Oversee AP/AR workflows including check runs, ACH payments, deposits, and credit card activity
  • Maintain accurate cash reporting and support cash flow planning/forecasting
  • Oversee accounts receivable, billing, and collections
  • Oversee accounts payable and payment approvals to support vendor relationships and cash needs
Payroll, Taxes & Compliance
  • Review payroll prior to processing
  • Ensure compliance with payroll tax deposits and required filings
  • Oversee occupational tax returns and industry‑related reporting (certified payroll, JATC, apprentice tracking)
People Operations
  • Oversee onboarding paperwork
  • Manage benefits administration
  • Administer variable compensation programs as applicable
  • Manage employee insurance benefits and administration of plans (all employees are in union insurance benefits)
  • Oversee management of personnel files
External Partners & Audit
  • Coordinate audits and serve as primary contact for CPA/auditors
  • Manage key relationships with banks, insurance providers, and (potential 401(k) partners)
Systems, Process Improvement & Data Analytics
  • Improve accounting workflows, reporting formats, and ERP/HR systems to support growth
  • Strengthen data analytics, dashboards, and reporting efficiency
  • Oversee back‑office support for liability and workers’ compensation insurance
  • Support leadership with compliance, disputes, claims, and risk mitigation as needed
  • Lead, supervise, and develop the Controller and Bookkeeper
  • Clarify roles, improve handoffs, and ensure accountability and performance
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. MBA or advanced degree a plus
  • Sound knowledge of accounting principles and financial regulations. CPA certification a plus
  • Proven experience (5 years) in a financial management role (Controller/Senior Controller), ideally within the electrical or construction industry
  • Results oriented manager with demonstrated success in driving and achieving financial results
  • Strong business acumen with a history of financial planning, fiscal management, and execution
  • Strong financial/HR systems development and experience
  • Proven experience managing multiple priorities in a rapidly growing company
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders
