The Assistant Controller supports the VP of Finance & Accounting by overseeing the day-to-day accounting tasks, preparing financial statements, maintaining internal controls and analyzing financial data, ensuring compliance with accounting standards while providing key insights to inform business decisions. This role manages the month-end close and the General Ledger, serves as the main contact for the annual audit, is the administrator for banking, and supervises the accounting staff. This role supervises managers of individual contributors and may have one or more individual contributors as direct reports.
This role is 100% remote. Candidates in Eastern or Central times zones are preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to ensure compliance
  • Oversee and support the Accounting team day-to-day operations by interfacing with individuals within and outside of the organization to ensure proper treatment and coding of accounting transactions
  • Perform and/or review bank transactions, journal entries and account reconciliations and analyses
  • Investigate errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports
  • Manage the month-end close and the General Ledger
  • Collaborate with external auditors to facilitate the annual audit process and support tax filing and payments
  • Maintain internal controls, policies, procedures, and documentation and improve as needed
  • Work effectively under tight deadlines in a team environment with a focus on responsiveness

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business required; CPA earned or CPA candidate
  • 8+ years' experience in accounting
  • Proficiency with Accounting software, especially Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains would be a plus; Advanced ability with MS Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP
