Job description


Job Title: Advanced Distribution Management System

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.
The Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS) organization is part of the Transmission Operation organization and is the business unit "owners" that manage OMS, DMS (including real-time model management) and Advanced Applications (Real-Time Powerflow, Distribution Automation and Volt/Var Optimization
This position is responsible for various responsibilities within the ADMS Systems group, and will work closely with DCC Support, ADMS Analytics and Reporting, GIS modelling/mapping, IT support groups, DCC's, vendors, industry groups and various other stakeholders to support and enhance the tools and processes within the Distribution System Operations organization.
Note- Successful candidates may be located within the FirstEnergy operating area but is subject to the hiring manager's approval.
Responsibilities include:
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to all aspects of safety, especially the impacts of ADMS systems within our control centers and field operation organizations.
  • Develop and implement best practices and initiatives pertaining to system functionalities along with associated processes and procedures.
  • Support the continued design, testing and enhancements of core ADMS applications including a focus on ADMS requirements and functionality. This includes the on-going documentation of testing, troubleshooting and enhancements of the product.
  • Support new product releases and system updates through testing and implementation.
  • Work with DCC Support and Reliability Reporting groups when required to support system(s) testing requirements, functionality verification and process adherence.
  • Work with IT, Work Management, WFD and other key organizations on the configurations and product enhancements of these applications to ensure systems and processes stay aligned.
  • Provide support to DCC's and field organizations during normal and storm situations.
  • Working with and across groups and organizations - Design, develop, test, and implement functionality associated with the advanced features of ADMS Systems, applications, integrations, and functionalities.
  • Support the expansion of Advanced Applications (AA) across the FE footprint including design, testing and implementation on an OpCo-by-OpCo basis.
  • Assist with the monitoring, troubleshooting and resolution of AA's device and circuit health issues.
  • Assist with the monitoring, continued development, and enhancements of real-time power flow functionality within the NMS in pursuit to continue to improve its consistency and accuracy on a per circuit basis across the FE footprint
  • Working with and across groups and organizations to support SCADA integrations to ensure all systems and functionalities are maintained
  • Support process adherence for those associated and impactful to the functionality of these operational systems including but not limited to Model Management and Switching and Tagging.

Engineer II Qualifications include:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering (BSEE, BSCE, BSME) from an ABET accredited institution is required. Acceptable alternatives are: (1) a Professional Engineer's (PE) License (2) a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited institution (3) a Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering or technical field of study (non-ABET) plus an advanced degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program. Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • A Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Certificate is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 (two) years of Engineering experience is required.

Engineer III Qualification Include:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering (BSEE, BSCE, BSME) from an ABET accredited institution is required. Acceptable alternatives are: (1) a Professional Engineer's (PE) License (2) a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited institution (3) a Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering or technical field of study (non-ABET) plus an advanced degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program. Electrical Engineering is preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 (three) years of Engineering experience is required.

Engineer IV Qualifications include:
