Equinox Engineering Ltd. is a Calgary-based EPCM firm. We are a market leader in oil and gas processing specializing in facilities design, implementation and operational assistance for natural gas, conventional oil, heavy oil and carbon capture projects. Our clients include several of the largest oil and gas producers in Canada and worldwide, and we are currently executing a wide range of sweet gas, sour gas, conventional oil and heavy oil facility and pipeline projects.
 
Summary:
The Senior Piping Engineer plans, directs, and executes all aspects of Piping Engineering activities within the department. Ensures all Piping Engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with organization's established objectives. Supports the Piping Engineering team across our global offices, including Canada, Australia, USA, and India.
 
 



Key Responsibilities
  • Subject matter expert for piping design, specification, and installation.
  • Oversee, train, and mentor junior and intermediate piping engineers.
  • Ensure the quality and accuracy of Piping Engineering deliverables.
  • Generate engineering hour estimates, resource loading, and forecasting for piping engineering projects and tasks.
  • Ensure effective use of global workshare to meet corporate requirements.
  • Assist in leading and execution of project deliverables including but not limited to piping specifications, line designation tables, isometric and general arrangement drawings, material requisitions, and specialty item specifications.
  • Contribute to project documentation including DBM’s, execution plans, manhour estimates, and scopes of work.
  • Identify and coordinate stress engineering requirements related to piping design.
  • Work closely with Piping Design Drafting department to ensure efficient delivery of optimized piping arrangements.
  • Contribute to model reviews at 30%, 60%, and 90% design stages, working closely with Piping Design and Drafting department to ensure readily identifiable optimizations are incorporated prior to client review.
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor Piping Engineering procedures and standards.
  • Liaise with Stress, Mechanical, Supply Chain and Project Management.
  • Field review of piping system installations, as-building piping systems as required.
  • Coordinate and respond to RFI’s related to piping systems.
  • Review and manage Client requirements and expectations.
  • Develop, manage, and implement project specifications.
  • Assist management in short/term planning and business strategies.
  • Support staff performance reviews and training.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the Health and Safety program.
  • Assist with business development and client relationships.
  • Industry networking and contacts.
 
 

Key Skills & Abilities
  • Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrable experience in mentorship and training.
  • Proven ability to execute efficiently on small to medium sized projects.
  • Experience in contributing to multi-discipline teams, including global workshare.
  • Proven experience designing to ASME B31.3, B31.1, B31.4 and B 31.8.
  • Expert level knowledge of CSA Z662 above ground piping design.
  • Advanced knowledge of metallurgy and materials selection for corrosive and elevated temperature piping systems.
  • Working knowledge of welding procedures, procedure qualification and NDE methodology.
  • Experience with pressure piping applications to ABSA, TSASK, and TSBC.
  • Design experience working with boiler and steam piping systems.
  • Ability to effectively resolve interdisciplinary issues, or concerns that arise within a team environment.
  • Ability to work with ABSA Inspectors and client teams to address field level piping concerns.
  • Broad exposure to natural gas, conventional oil and heavy oil facility design and construction.
  • Familiarity with materials requisitions and supply chain management systems and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Pipeline Engineering and Welding


Education & Qualifications
  • Successful candidate will be a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) within the province of Alberta.
  • Possess a Mechanical or Metallurgical Engineering degree.
  • Minimum 15+ year’s oil and gas experience with minimum 5 years recent EPCM experience, focused on mechanical and piping engineering.
  • Experience in CAD and 3D piping modelling is considered an asset.
