Title: Truss Plant Warehouse/Yard Loader

Reports to: Operations Manager

Classification: Hourly

Department: Warehouse/Yard Workers

The successful candidate will be someone who enjoys helping others. The person in this position is vital to keeping the production moving by ensure materials are where they need to be. While it is hard work, it is vital to our business and the successful candidate will understand that time and accuracy equate to money in the construction supply industry. Taking pride in your work and being willing to help any member of the team is key to success.

Purpose of Position: Ensure Sawyers and Builders have the product they need, when they need it. . Pull orders from stock, loads orders onto delivery trucks, and unloads stock as it comes in. Maintain work area in a clean and orderly manner.
Essential Functions of the Job: (must be able to perform these functions, with or without reasonable accommodation).

  • Must successfully pass company-provided forklift operator training program and maintain “certification” through safe operation and following of procedures.
  • Operate forklift to load and unload trucks (company and customer) as directed by supervisor.
  • Assist truck drivers in unloading and returning credit items, ensuring that items are returned to proper storage location, and verifying that Return Credit Authorization is filled out entirely and submitted.
  • Unload incoming freight and verify the count to see if it is correct.
  • Complete all necessary reports; check orders filled, check material received, and complete forklift inspection forms.
  • Load and safely handle customer orders.
  • Maintain knowledge of proper identification of inventory items.
  • Locate and pull correct items by type, style, and quantity as directed by the supervisor to fill order completely, quickly, and accurately.
  • Perform basic yard housekeeping duties by leveling lumber units and stacks, picking up and disposing of all garbage (especially cut metal banding), and reporting any unsafe conditions to Yard Foreman.
  • Assist with cycle counts and inventory control as needed.
  • Comply with specified company dress code.
  • Assist supervisor, employees, and other work areas as needed.
  • Attends staff, departmental meetings, and safety and health training, as required, on time.
  • Works when scheduled and complies with company attendance policy.
  • Observes and practices all safety procedures and policies.
  • Participates in and demonstrates an understanding of safety principles and practices; follows all safety policies procedures (e.g., safety glasses, earplugs, face shields, etc.) to support a safe working environment, including safe operation of machines and equipment.
  • Travels as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: (must be able to perform these functions, with or without reasonable accommodation).

  • Demonstrates ability to follow specific instructions and directions.
  • Demonstrate ability to use and operate hand tools, including reading a tape measure and using a hammer.
  • Demonstrate ability to stack material properly.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced team environment, as well as work alone.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English effectively.
  • Must be able to comply with OSHA requirements and standards to wear all applicable PPE properly.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull, maximum lift – 100 lbs.; frequently lift/carry – up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to see within normal range of vision with or without corrective lenses.
  • Must be able to hear running machinery.
  • Must be able to use hands, wrists, and fingers repetitively.
  • Must have exceptional eye-hand coordination.
  • Must regularly be able to reach overhead.
  • Must regularly be able to squat, bend, twist, and stand.
  • Must be able to walk around regularly using steps occasionally.

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Three months of experience operating forklifts or similar equipment.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug test.

Work Conditions:

  • Works outside in temperatures ranging from extreme heat to extreme cold.
  • Work with mechanical equipment daily.
  • Work in areas with high noise levels
