Job description

Agency:

GSD&M

Job Function:

Strategy and Planning

Job Subfunction:

Account Planning and Brand Planning

Job Description:

Endlessly curious, GSD&M Strategy team members focus on bringing insightful context, uncommon sense and clear inspiration to our clients. They rely on a strong understanding of how people think and behave, what's happening in popular culture, how to build memorable brands, and what's going on in the business, marketing, communications and experience landscapes.

Position Function

At the Strategist level, you've proven you have the basics down. You'll be expected to play a significant role in contributing to creative briefs, POVs, consumer research initiatives and insights (primary, secondary). You'll be reporting to a Strategy Director to help guide the work over the finish line.

Position-specific Responsibilities/Duties

You'll be responsible for:

  • Conducting research. You'll have access to syndicated data like Forrester, Kantar, Mintel, MRI, as well as assist in designing and conducting primary research-including moderation of focus groups and interviews with some oversight.

  • Sharing POVs. Based on the data you have access to and trends you identify in the social and cultural consciousness, you'll be expected to develop POVs that shape your client's marketing communications.

  • Trendspotting and thought leadership. You'll keep the agency and client teams on their toes by identifying interesting consumer and business trends that represent opportunity for the brand to have a first-mover advantage.

  • Writing and delivering creative briefs. The best part of the job: shaping a client's business challenge into a creative opportunity. You'll collaborate with your team to develop interesting and insightful briefs that inspire creative teams.

  • May have opportunities to be client-facing and will interact with the agency executive team

  • Assist in New Business efforts as needed.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in a strategic discipline (strategy, research, account management, consumer insights)

  • Skilled at conducting research, analyzing large sets of syndicated and/or client-provided data, and developing recommendations or a point-of-view based on those inputs. Experience conducting qualitative (focus groups, IDIs/ethnographies, etc.) and quantitative research is a plus.

  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills

  • A love of advertising, communications, media channels, popular culture and how people consume and act on all of these things.

  • Insatiable curiosity that compels you to keep learning about consumers, clients and your collaborators

  • Open to giving and receiving feedback without ego

  • High emotional intelligence
