Job description

COMPANY BACKGROUND The Houston Dynamo Football Club (HDFC) is a multi-faceted organization dedicated to inspiring and supporting soccer participation and growth in Houston, TX and beyond. The Club's brands include men's and women's professional teams - the Houston Dynamo (MLS) and Houston Dash (NWSL), a development academy, Houston Dynamo Dash Charities, as well as Shell Energy Stadium and Houston Sports Park. The Club has a rich history, including MLS Cup titles (2006, 2007) and in-season tournament championships for both the Dynamo (2018) and Dash (2020) and is focused on building toward the next championships, inspiring and uniting the city of Houston through the sport of soccer and community outreach, and creating the most inclusive sporting experience and diverse fan base in the city and state.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB Houston Dash is seeking an experienced Assistant Coach with demonstrated expertise in player development, tactical coaching, and performance analysis. The position combines elite-level coaching responsibilities with technical analysis and operational support, serving as a key contributor to player development, team performance, match preparation, and implementation of the Houston Dash playing model. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head Coach and technical staff to support all training, matchday, player development, and analytical processes while helping create a high-performance environment consistent with Dash values and standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 60% Coaching & Player Development
In-Game Support
  • Assess the effectiveness of game plans and identify key variables impacting performance.
  • Diagnose tactical, technical, physical, and psychosocial challenges and provide clear solutions.
  • Support tactical decision-making and staff collaboration during matches.
  • Assist with pre-match preparation, matchday coaching responsibilities, and post-match review processes.
  • Support with analysis of Attacking Set Pieces (Dash attacking & opponent defending)

Training & Teaching
  • Design and lead training elements aligned with the team's playing model and tactical principles.
  • Plan and conduct individual, small-group, unit, and team training sessions.
  • Support player film reviews and individual development meetings.
  • Collaborate with the Head Coach and technical staff to align team objectives and individual development goals.
  • Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of Individual Development Plans (IDPs).
  • Support with teaching of Attacking Set Pieces (Dash attacking & opponent defending)

On-Field Coaching
  • Demonstrate excellent on-field presence through session design, delivery, and coaching detail.
  • Lead or assist with technical, positional, and tactical training sessions.
  • Support training organization including field setup, activity transitions, and session flow.
  • Assist with return-to-play integration in collaboration with medical and performance staff.
  • Support roster management discussions, player evaluations, and succession planning.

40% Performance Analysis & Technical Support
Team Performance Analysis
  • Utilize Sportscode, Hudl, Wyscout, and other analytical platforms to evaluate team and player performance.
  • Produce individual, unit, and team video clips to support player development and tactical understanding.
  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of game plans, performance reviews, and tactical presentations.
  • As directed, help with maintenance of the club's video library and technical resources.

Opposition Scouting Work in tandem with team analyst to:
  • Conduct comprehensive opposition scouting through video, data, and live observation.
  • Identify tactical structures, trends, strengths, weaknesses, key players, and set-piece tendencies.
  • Produce opposition scouting reports and presentations for players and staff.
  • Provide tactical recommendations aligned with the Dash game model.

Organizational & Administrative Responsibilities
  • Assist in preparing Keynotes for player-facing meetings
  • As directed, help with maintaining player evaluations, development plans, scouting reports, and analytical databases.
  • Contribute ideas and best practices that improve communication, feedback systems, and technical workflows.
  • Support club, league, community, media, and sponsorship initiatives as requested.
  • Abide by all Club, NWSL, local, state, and federal policies and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
  • USSF "B" Coaching License
  • Experience working in elite soccer at the national team, professional, and/or collegiate levels.
  • Professional & international playing experience preferred.
  • Experience, familiarity, and network within international soccer preferred.
  • Must be able to work long hours, weekends, and some holidays - as needed.
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Must have the ability to travel internationally.
  • Available to work evenings, weekends, and Holidays
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Keynote and Video Analysis tools
