Job description

Piper Electric Co., a Crete United Company, is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support commercial and industrial electrical construction projects from turnover through completion and close-out. Working closely with Project Managers and field leadership, this position will assist with project coordination, documentation, scheduling, cost tracking, and communication to help ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.

This is a great opportunity for someone with electrical construction experience who is ready to grow into a Project Manager role.

Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesProject Coordination & Execution
  • Assist Project Managers with project schedules, execution plans, and milestone tracking
  • Coordinate with Field Managers to monitor progress, manpower, material, tooling, and subcontractor needs
  • Participate in project kickoff, construction, turnover, and close-out meetings
  • Help track project progress against schedules, budgets, productivity goals, and contractual requirements
  • Prepare meeting agendas, document action items, and follow up with responsible parties
  • Support communication between project management, field leadership, customers, and trade partners
  • Assist with resolving project issues and keeping work moving forward
Documentation & Financial Support
  • Coordinate purchase orders, change orders, RFIs, submittals, permits, inspections, and critical material tracking
  • Work closely with the Project Manager and Project Coordinator to maintain accurate project documentation and correspondence
  • Assist with job-cost reporting, forecasting, change-order pricing, and financial tracking
  • Maintain organized project files and ensure documentation is current and accessible
  • Track outstanding approvals, materials, and project deliverables
  • Support project close-out activities, including O&M manuals, warranties, and as-built drawings
Safety & Risk Management
  • Promote and reinforce Piper Electric’s safety expectations across assigned projects
  • Support weekly jobsite safety meetings and company safety initiatives
  • Participate in general contractor safety meetings as needed
  • Help ensure project teams follow company and jobsite policies and procedures
  • Identify potential project risks and communicate concerns to project leadership
Client & Stakeholder Relationships
  • Build effective working relationships with general contractors, owners, architects, engineers, inspectors, vendors, and trade partners
  • Represent Piper Electric professionally in project meetings and communications
  • Respond promptly to project-related requests and help ensure commitments are completed
  • Support positive project outcomes and long-term customer relationships
Additional Responsibilities
  • Attend staff, operations, and manpower-planning meetings
  • Assist with project reporting and continuous-improvement initiatives
  • Support recruiting efforts by identifying and recommending qualified field talent
  • Take on increasing project responsibility as knowledge and experience grow
Job Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience in electrical construction, project coordination, estimating, field supervision, or a related role preferred
  • General understanding of commercial and/or industrial electrical construction
  • Familiarity with the National Electrical Code and applicable local codes preferred
  • Experience with project documentation, scheduling, submittals, RFIs, and change orders is a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organization, follow-through, and time-management abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with project management and field teams
  • Motivated to learn and grow into greater project-management responsibility
