Qualifications:
No experience required but experience working with students would be beneficial. A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required. Work well with children; follow verbal and written instructions and basic computer knowledge. If a particular position requires a unique skill, the new employee will be required to either possess that skill or be trained by the employer. Must hold a Paraprofessional License.
Reports to:
Classroom teachers where assigned and the building principal.
Job Goals:
Perform duties that are instructional in nature or deliver direct services to students or parents. Serve in a position for which a teacher or another professional has ultimate responsibility for the design and implementation of education programs and services.
Performance Responsibilities:
Planning and Preparation
  1. Assist the teacher in planning and maintaining a safe, clean, learning and environment and in assuring the well being and safety of the children in his/her care.
  2. Maintains a cooperative attitude of working together with the teacher, and planning and implementing activities.
  3. Plans with and assists the teacher in preparing materials and supplies for activities/assignments.
  4. Enforce administrative policies and rules governing students.

Professional Responsibility
  1. Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, special events as assigned.
  2. Serve on committees to provide insight and contribute to the organization.

Class Environment
  1. Assists with discipline and shares insights regarding changes in behavior.
  2. Provide extra assistance to students with special needs and non-English-speaking students.

Instruction
  1. Provide RTI instructional support and assist children individually or in small groups in order to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
  2. Present subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using lectures, discussions, or supervised role-playing methods.
  3. Observe students' performance, record relevant data to assess progress and input behavioral data with regards to PBIS.
  4. Provide students with assistive devices and supportive technology as needed.
  5. Carry out therapeutic regimens such as behavior plans under the supervision of special education instructors, psychologists, or speech-language pathologists.
  6. Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers in order to coordinate instructional efforts.
  7. When using a scripted intervention for reading, writing and math, program must be implemented by following the script provided in the teacher's manual.
  8. Provide students with feedback regarding academic and behavioral assessments.
  9. Grade homework and tests and record results.

Other
  1. Assist in other areas outside the classroom, including bathroom needs, unloading and loading busses, hallway supervision and lunchroom as needed.
  2. Exhibits a genuine nurturing, caring attitude to all children.
  3. Maintains confidentiality regarding knowledge of students academic and personal information.
  4. Perform other appropriate teacher assistant responsibilities as directed by administration.

Salary & Benefits
  • Competitive Hourly Rate: Based on the current collective bargaining agreement (typically ranges from $14.47 to $19.81 depending on experience and education).
