Job description

Yorkville High School has an opening for a Assistant Speech Coach (.5 FTE) for the 2026-2027 School Year. 

BRIEF DESCRIPTION / POSITION SUMMARY: 

  • The Speech Team Assistant Coach will supervise students during meetings. The Coach will work alongside the head
  • coach to work with all areas of the program and will help supervise students in performing in the speech contests.
  • Assist in publicizing and holding auditions for team members
  • Prepare team members for competition through regular rehearsals (includes securing scripts, supervising
  • writing of original materials, teaching students rules of events and etiquette for tournament participation)
  • Help the head coach secure all transportation, and finance related parts of the program.
  • Determine eligibility of students to participate in contests
  • Coordinate parent volunteers for home tournament
  • Ensure that students have a way to get home and remains present until the last student is released
  • Assist head coach with all details for home tournament
  • Publicize student success
  • Hold parent events to showcase student performances and recognize team success
  • Attend meetings as required by the IHSA and The Southwest Prairie Conference
  • Be knowledgeable of current IHSA rules and regulations for Individual Events
  • Assists with writing college letters of recommendation for students per their request.
  • Maintains field trip requests, as applicable
  • Makes transportation requests a minimum of 20 days in advance
  • Communicates all student achievements and accomplishments within the program to the activity director in a timely fashion so that they can be highlighted in parent/staff and student communication.
  • Assists Head Coach with other duties as required

 
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS: 
SKILLS: Organizational skills and initiative for working with minimal direct supervision. Must show evidence of strong leadership and organizational skills. 
KNOWLEDGE: Previous successful experience in sponsorship/mentoring preferred. Substantial knowledge in the area of student support, as well as familiarity with student discipline and safety protocols. 
ABILITY: Establish and maintain positive and supportive working relationships with all stakeholders to be flexible and change as needed. 
Stipend Range: $3,495-$5,856 (Pro-rated at .5 FTE) - Based on experience
