AFTER SCHOOL LEADER


West LA Extended Day is looking for enthusiastic, dependable, and caring After School Leaders to join our team for the 2026-2027 school year. You'll work with elementary-aged students in a fun, supportive environment while leading activities, helping with homework, supervising play, and helping create a safe and positive after-school experience.


Schedule: Monday-Friday, approximately 1:30 PM-6:00 PM

Pay: $19-$22/hour, based on experience and qualifications

Location: WISH Charter Elementary, Westchester, CA

Position: Part-time


What you'll do:

  • Supervise elementary-aged students and maintain a safe, positive environment
  • Lead games, sports, arts and crafts, recreation, and enrichment activities
  • Assist students with homework and learning activities
  • Support positive behavior and appropriate student discipline
  • Supervise indoor and outdoor activities
  • Monitor student arrival, attendance, and dismissal
  • Communicate professionally with parents, teachers, and staff
  • Prepare and distribute snacks
  • Maintain basic program records and help keep program areas organized
  • Provide basic first aid and follow established health and safety procedures as needed


What we're looking for:

Someone that is:

  • Dependable, patient, positive, and comfortable working with children
  • Able to supervise and lead groups of elementary-aged students
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience working with children is preferred


Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 6 (but ideally 12) college semester units in any combination of Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Education, Recreation, or a related field
  • Ability to complete LiveScan/background clearance before employment
  • Ability to provide required TB clearance before employment
  • Reliable transportation/ability to report to the Westchester location
  • Availability Monday–Friday during program hours


Preferred

  • Experience working with elementary-aged children in an after-school program, classroom, camp, recreation program, tutoring, coaching, or similar setting
  • Additional coursework in education, child development, psychology, social work, recreation, or a related field


Physical Requirements & Work Environment

This position involves working in both classroom and playground environments and may require standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and lifting throughout the workday. Must be able to lift and carry recreation, instructional supplies, and other materials weighing up to 40 pounds.
