9-1-1 Dispatchers Needed - Overnight Shifts

Typical Hours: 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Schedule:  4 days on/4 days off

 

Sawyer County is accepting applications for full-time and part-time - as needed 9-1-1 dispatchers.  Dispatchers answer incoming telephone and radio calls receive and record information and communicate needs to law enforcement and emergency services personnel.    

Qualifications for this position include a high school diploma or its equivalent must be 18 years of age and have no felony convictions.  Computer experience the ability to multi-task and handle stressful situations and accuracy of work is required.  Previous training or experience as an emergency dispatcher is preferred but not required.

Position Description

TITLE: Dispatcher

DEPARTMENT: Sheriff’s Department

SUPERVISOR: 911 Supervisor

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Dispatcher is responsible for receiving and processing incoming telephone and radio communications, accurately documenting information, and coordinating appropriate responses with law enforcement, emergency medical services, fire departments, and other emergency service providers. This is a civilian position; law enforcement certification is not required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Receive and respond to incoming telephone calls and radio transmissions.

·         Obtain, evaluate, and document critical information to determine appropriate response.

·         Dispatch law enforcement, ambulance, fire, and other emergency service personnel throughout Sawyer County.

·         Operate the Wisconsin TIME System in accordance with state and federal regulations.

·         Utilize the department’s records management system to enter, update, and retrieve information.

·         Maintain accurate and timely records and complete required documentation and filing.

·         Monitor jail video surveillance systems from the Dispatch Center to assist jail staff as needed.

·         Maintain a detailed daily activity log documenting all incidents and actions taken during each shift.

·         Perform other duties and special assignments as directed by the Sheriff or designee.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

·         High school diploma or equivalent required.

·         Must be at least 18 years of age and have no felony convictions at the state or federal level.

·         Demonstrated computer proficiency and the ability to learn specialized systems.

·         Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in high-stress and emergency situations.

·         Strong multitasking skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

·         Prior experience or training as an emergency dispatcher is preferred.

The individual in this position must:

·         Follow oral and written instructions and apply established protocols in emergency situations.

·         Possess a working knowledge of law enforcement practices and procedures.

·         Establish and maintain effective working relationships with emergency responders, coworkers, supervisors, and the public.

·         Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

·         Position may require attendance at out-of-area training and availability for emergency call-in.

·         Must possess a valid Wisconsin driver’s license and the ability to travel independently.

·         Ability to hear clearly, speak effectively, and maintain situational awareness.

·         Ability to operate computers, radio systems, and standard office equipment.

·         Ability to remain seated and work in an enclosed environment for extended periods.
