Job Summary


This is a technical position within the Public Works Department with a wide variety of duties pertaining to the recycling program within Boone County.



The Solid Waste Recycling Technician must obtain the ability to operate power tools, vehicles and equipment, as well as perform manual tasks assigned by a Solid Waste Services Supervisor.


Major Essential Duties

  • Work closely with the Solid Waste Services Specialist on community programs, special events, state and local clean-ups, etc.
  • Assist the Solid Waste Services Specialist with tasks related to day-to-day operations.
  • Assist with the servicing and maintenance of equipment and tools used by Solid Waste Services and the Recycling Center.
  • Safely operate vehicles, trucks and equipment as needed for the recycling program.
  • Collect, analyze and interpret data derived from programs to assist in process improvements and report writing.
  • Communicate with residents on proper disposal of materials.
  • Assist Recycling Center Manager as needed.
  • This person must have knowledge of County policies, specifications and solid waste procedures, as well as knowledge of Boone County Jail’s specific procedures

Relationships


  • The Solid Waste Services Recycling Technician performs duties within the Public Works Department, under the direct supervision of the Solid Waste Services Specialist.



Requirements:

Qualifications


Education and/or Experience

  • Graduate of a standard high school, vocational school or the equivalency, supplemented by experience or training which provides the desired knowledge, skills and abilities to perform required duties in the Solid Waste Services Division

Language Skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measurement using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Skills

  • Defines problems, collects data, establishes facts, and draws valid conclusions
  • Interprets a variety of technical and instructional information
  • Makes decisions which serve the county’s best interest and follows the missions and objectives of the Public Works Department


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Possession of a valid Commonwealth of Kentucky driver’s license


Other Knowledge and/or Skills

  • Ability to work alone or as a team member of a Solid Waste Services Division performing tasks as assigned.
  • Ability to work with other departments, county and governmental agencies
  • Ability to work under limited supervision
