Assistant Puppet Theatre information

What are Assistant Puppet Theatre jobs?

Assistant Puppet Theatre jobs involve supporting the operation and production of puppet theater performances. This can include tasks such as helping puppeteers with puppet handling, managing props and stage setup, assisting with lighting and sound, and sometimes interacting with the audience. The role often requires creativity, teamwork, and an interest in performing arts. Assistants may also help with puppet maintenance, rehearsals, and backstage organization to ensure smooth performances.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Assistant Puppet Theatre, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Assistant in a Puppet Theatre, you need a background in performing arts, basic puppetry techniques, and stagecraft, often supported by relevant experience or education in theatre. Familiarity with lighting, sound equipment, and puppet-making tools is typically required. Creativity, teamwork, and strong communication skills help you collaborate effectively with directors and performers and engage audiences. These skills are crucial for delivering captivating performances and ensuring smooth behind-the-scenes operations in a theatrical environment.

What is the difference between Assistant Puppet Theatre vs Assistant Stage Manager?

Work EnvironmentPerformances, rehearsals, puppet workshopsBackstage, rehearsals, live performances
Industry UsageUsed in puppet theaters, arts organizationsUsed across theater productions, including puppet shows

While both roles support theater productions, the Assistant Puppet Theatre focuses on puppetry-specific tasks and performances, whereas the Assistant Stage Manager handles overall stage management duties. Both require theater experience, but their specific responsibilities differ based on the production type.

What are some common challenges faced by an Assistant Puppet Theatre and how can they be managed?

Assistant Puppet Theatre professionals often juggle multiple responsibilities, including assisting with puppet creation, stage setup, and show operations. One common challenge is managing tight rehearsal and performance schedules while ensuring all puppets and props are performance-ready. Effective communication with the lead puppeteer and other team members is essential to ensure smooth show execution. Adapting to last-minute changes and maintaining a high level of attention to detail can help overcome these challenges and contribute to a successful production.

Job description

Experienced Children’s Instructors Wanted
Part-Time Position | Growth Opportunities Available
Location: Kakaʻako, Honolulu
Expected Start Date: June 2026

My Treehouse Club is seeking energetic, confident, and passionate instructors to join our team.

This is NOT a traditional classroom teaching role. Experience working with children is strongly preferred, but equally important is the ability to perform, engage, connect with families, and bring high energy to every class. Our programs serve children ranging from infants through approximately 5th grade, so instructors should feel comfortable adapting to different ages, personalities, and energy levels.

We are looking for educators who are confident leading groups, building relationships with families, and willing to become part performer, part teacher, and part community builder.

ABOUT MY TREEHOUSE CLUB

My Treehouse Club is a children’s learning academy serving infants through approximately 5th grade. We focus on movement, confidence building, kindness, and creating memorable experiences through high-energy programming.

At MTC, families join a community and ohana, not simply a class.

Our programs are designed to help children build confidence, independence, creativity, and meaningful relationships while making learning FUN.

Programs at My Treehouse Club include:

Fitness Programs
• Grown-Up & Me Fitness Classes
• Big Kid Fitness & Movement Classes

Creative & Educational Programs
• Studio Art Classes
• Japanese Language & Cultural Programs
• Preschool Prep Programs
• Kindergarten Interview & Classroom Readiness Prep
• Tutoring & Academic Support

Events & Special Programs
• Birthday Parties
• Parent’s Night Out Programs
• Mobile/Off-Site Programs
• Community Events & Performances
• Seasonal Camps & Special Workshops

While many instructors begin primarily in fitness programs, employees may have opportunities to run, lead, or assist with additional My Treehouse Club programs over time based on experience, strengths, interests, and training. Versatility is highly valued at MTC.

FITNESS TEACHER ROLE, PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

This is NOT a traditional school teacher position.

If you are looking for a quiet classroom environment, sitting at tables, or a typical preschool role, this may not be the right fit.

At My Treehouse Club, our classes are a mixture of:

Education + Entertainment + Performance + Movement

Our instructors are expected to be HIGH energy.

Think:

Children’s TV Host + Camp Counselor + Cheerleader + Performer + Teacher

Honestly… we are kind of like Blippi energy in real life.

Our teachers sing loudly, dance, act silly, perform puppet shows, roll on the floor with toddlers, lead obstacle courses, and create magical experiences children remember.

You MUST be comfortable:

• Singing silly songs in front of children AND adults
• Dancing and being physically active throughout class
• Projecting your voice confidently to large groups
• Being animated and expressive for long periods
• Performing even on tired days because children feed off your energy
• Leading circle time confidently
• Teaching while entertaining at the same time
• Being “on stage” while teaching

Our classes may include:

• Circle time songs
• Obstacle courses
• Dance and movement activities
• Puppet shows
• Basic gymnastics skills and assisting babies with forward rolls and handstands
• Structured learning disguised as FUN

Being able to physically demonstrate movement or gymnastics skills yourself is a major plus.

We are looking for instructors willing to give 120% energy while teaching.

Families pay for an experience, not supervision.

RELATIONSHIPS MATTER HERE

This role also involves a large amount of professional and sincere communication with parents and caregivers.

We are not looking for someone who only wants to teach a class and go home.

We are looking for someone who wants to:

• Remember children’s names and personalities
• Celebrate milestones with families
• Build trust with parents
• Become a positive part of our MTC community and ohana
• Create meaningful relationships with children and caregivers

Our strongest instructors become trusted members of a family’s support system.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS (STRONGLY PREFERRED)

Applicants should have:

• Minimum 3 years experience teaching infants through elementary-aged children (up to approximately 5th grade) strongly preferred
• Experience in classrooms, camps, enrichment programs, gymnastics, daycare, or similar settings preferred
• Experience independently leading groups
• Strong communication skills with children and adults
• Ability to confidently project voice to large groups
Fluent, clear English required
• Additional languages such as Japanese are a major plus
• Background in acting, theatre, dance, cheer, sports coaching, gymnastics, music, camp counseling, or performance-based teaching strongly preferred
• Art skills or preschool curriculum experience are a major plus
• CPR certification preferred but not required
• Experience with organizations emphasizing performance-based children’s programming such as My Gym, Disney, camps, enrichment programs, gymnastics facilities, theatre programs, etc. is highly valued
• Comfortable learning scripts and maintaining My Treehouse Club brand personality
• Willingness to learn and run multiple My Treehouse Club programs is strongly preferred
• Adaptability and openness to different age groups, subjects, and events is highly valued
Must be 18 years or older

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Primarily lead fitness-based classes for infants through approximately 5th grade
• May have opportunities to run, lead, or assist with additional programs including Art, Japanese, Preschool Prep, Kindergarten Interview Prep, Tutoring, Birthday Parties, Parent’s Night Out, camps, and special events based on experience, strengths, and training
• Learn weekly programming and curriculum
• Follow My Treehouse Club scripts and dialogue to maintain brand consistency

• Complete cleaning and closing duties
• Assist with basic computer/admin tasks
• Communicate confidently and professionally with families
• Support performances, mobile programs, Parent’s Night Out, birthday parties, and special events as needed

• Opportunities for mobile/off-site programs may become available
• Reliable transportation strongly preferred for mobile programs
