Assistant Project Manager โ€“ Heavy Civil Projects

Salem, Oregon


Our client is a respected heavy civil contractor specializing in complex infrastructure projects throughout the Pacific Northwest. They are looking for an Assistant Project Manager to support water and wastewater projects, including treatment plants, pump stations, and related infrastructure.


This role is well suited for an early-career Civil Engineer or construction professional with at least one year of industry experience who wants to build a career in project management. Youโ€™ll work alongside experienced Project Managers and field teams while gaining hands-on experience with project coordination, scheduling, budgeting, documentation, and client communication.


Assistant Project Manager Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the planning and execution of heavy civil water and wastewater projects.
  • Support project schedules, budgets, cost tracking, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Coordinate with field teams, subcontractors, vendors, engineers, and owners.
  • Review plans, specifications, contracts, and other project documents.
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, progress reports, and other project documentation.
  • Track project progress and help identify schedule, cost, and scope concerns.
  • Participate in project meetings and follow up on action items.
  • Assist with procurement, material coordination, quality control, and project closeout.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and field leadership while taking on increasing project responsibility.


Assistant Project Manager Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of experience in civil construction, heavy civil, engineering, or construction project coordination.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Water/wastewater, utilities, treatment plants, pump stations, or other infrastructure experience is a plus.
  • Understanding of construction plans, specifications, scheduling, and project documentation.
  • Comfortable working with project costs, quantities, budgets, and financial information.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with field teams, subcontractors, vendors, and clients.
