Job description

Mechanical Project Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking an Mechanical Project engineer for a heavy industrial mechanical contractor specializing in the installation, service, and maintenance of power and process systems in the manufacturing and power generation market. This role will be based in Winchester, VA providing flexibility to manage multiple projects under the supervision of the Operations Manager. The primary focus will be to ensure projects are delivered safely, on-budget, on schedule, and in compliance with company standards and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily with the Winchester,VA Project Manager to support current and upcoming projects.
  • Coordinate weekly with the Operations Manager to support field projects.
  • Assist with project buy-out for supplied materials, ensuring compliance with client specifications and industry standards.
  • Expedite material deliveries from subcontractors and suppliers according to the project schedule and coordinate with the project team.
  • Define and adhere to project specifications, seek clarification through the RFI process, and ensure drawings are up-to-date.
  • Manage specific project budgets within the company cost control system.
  • Accumulate necessary data for monthly owner and subcontractor applications for payment.
  • Assist with pre-construction and progress meetings with clients and subcontractors.
  • Assist with estimating new opportunities, including labor production, material take-offs, quotes, and subcontractor pricing.
  • Maintain and complete records of submittals, approvals, and resubmittals.

Essential Skills

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 6 months to less than a year with internship evolving Mechanical experience
  • 1 year of previous construction experience, preferably as a Mechanical Contractor or Prime Contractor in an industrial environment.
  • Ability to read schematics and construction drawings.
  • Thorough understanding of plans and specifications, including layout drawings, process & flow diagrams, and piping isometric drawings.
  • Experience in scheduling and estimating is a plus.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and organizational skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Field experience in construction management, chemical engineering, and process engineering.
  • Experience with change orders and engineering processes.

Work Environment

This position requires a 50% split between office work and fieldwork.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Glen Burnie, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $130000.00/hr.
