Job Summary
Air Systems is seeking an Assistant Project Manager (APM) to support and manage Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Mechanical Service projects throughout Northern California. This role offers the opportunity to independently manage smaller projects while assisting with larger projects under senior Project Managers. Responsibilities include project execution, customer communication, budgeting, scheduling, procurement, field coordination, and project closeout. The ideal candidate is organized, technically capable, customer-focused, and motivated to grow into a Project Manager role.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Project Management
  • Manage BAS and mechanical projects from kickoff through closeout.
  • Coordinate schedules, labor, subcontractors, vendors, and materials.
  • Monitor budgets, costs, profitability, and change orders.
  • Review contracts, plans, specifications, and project requirements.
  • Communicate with customers and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Drive project completion safely, on time, and within budget.

Financial & Administrative Management
  • Track project costs and financial performance.
  • Assist with forecasting, billing, revenue recognition, and WIP reporting.
  • Maintain project documentation and records.
  • Identify and capture change order opportunities.

Field Operations Support
  • Support field teams, subcontractors, and project personnel.
  • Participate in site visits, coordination meetings, commissioning, and project turnover.
  • Promote safety and quality standards.

Support of Larger Projects
  • Assist Project Managers on larger projects and assigned scopes.
  • Support procurement, scheduling, subcontract administration, and project controls.
  • Contribute to project planning and execution strategies.

Qualifications
Required
  • 2+ years of experience in BAS, HVAC, mechanical construction, service operations, controls, engineering, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to read plans, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Basic understanding of project financials and cost management.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Teams).
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.

Preferred
  • Experience with BAS platforms such as Alerton, Automated Logic, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Tridium, Distech, or similar systems.
  • Experience managing small construction, retrofit, controls, or service projects.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, HVAC Technology, Business, or related field.
  • Experience with ERP, project management, or construction management software.
