Job description

Come join the team at United Steel, New England's largest fabricator and erector of structural steel and miscellaneous metals!
United Steel is currently seeking an Assistant Project Manager. This position works directly with Project Managers on specific projects and assists in maintaining project records, drawings, RFI's and other documents or customer requirements that are deemed necessary.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Support Project Managers with day-to-day project tasks to maintain customer relationships and project schedules as needed.
  • Tracking drawings throughout the drawing approval process all the way to fabrication.
  • Maintain and update all structural and miscellaneous drawing logs.
  • Work with outside vendors to keep buyout items on track.
  • Developing project specific reports or lists to help facilitate the project.
  • Assist in updating and maintaining Structural and Misc. Metals Shop production schedules.
  • Maintain Procore and the Project Management Drive stay updated and organized.
  • Maintaining the print room including ordering supplies for the print room.
  • Ensure all drawings are printed and sent out to meet the needs of the company.
  • Participate and contribute to critical project meetings.
  • Communicate with all other departments internally.
  • Update and help develop departmental procedures.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management or civil engineering, preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience"
  • The ability to read and understand structural drawings.
  • Basic math skills and technical writing skills required.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to multitask and manage time effectively.
  • Must have good oral and written skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with all levels in the organization, Customers and Vendors.
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative environment and to perform positively in high conflict situations.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Project Management Software, and pdf editors.
  • Develops effective working relationships, which foster integrity, trust, and respect.
  • Strong sense of urgency and ability to work through bid process, addressing customer needs and requests, and balancing business needs.

Working Conditions
This is a full-time position, and the hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, which needs to be discussed and approved by the department Manager in advance and must work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status. This position may require long hours and frequent local travel.
