Job description

The Project Engineer provides direct support to construction project estimating and project management in the heavy highway, infrastructure, site work, and concrete construction industry on projects ranging from $250,000 - $10 million. This position directly supports the Project Managers to efficiently, successfully, and profitably complete assigned construction projects.
Experienced and entry level candidates will be considered.
A. Merante Contracting will assign each Project Engineer with a mentor to ensure they are learning how to carry out all job responsibilities. Project Engineer may also be assigned as a mentor to entry-level staff. An ideal candidate will learn quickly, speak up when they need direction, and will always strive to play their part in a project's success.
Responsibilities
  • Assist the Project Manager and Superintendent to maintain and update construction project details, such as:
    • Start-up: submittals, quotes, COI's, subcontracts, PO's, field packets, etc.
    • Ongoing: RFI's, CPR's, certifications & tickets, vendor docs, production quantities, etc.
    • Close-out: Force accounts, change orders, lien waivers, DBE reports, punch lists, etc.
  • Maintain the construction project (electronic and hard copy) systems and ensure critical documents are obtained from vendors and internal personnel.
  • Maintain construction material stock levels and assist with logistics
  • Review daily HeavyJob timecards for accuracy
  • Record meeting minutes when necessary
  • Schedule construction projects and create weekly updates
  • Mentor and train entry level staff
  • Report to and learn from construction project managers and field leadership
  • Assist with budget development
  • Pay invoices and assist in project management accounting responsibilities
  • May perform other duties as assigned
  • E-Builder system experience for PWSA

Qualifications
The preferred Project Engineer candidate will have a B.S. Civil Engineering or Construction Management and\or 3+ years of field management, engineering or estimating experience in heavy civil and structures, i.e. bridges, culverts, road reconstruction, retaining walls, site work, underground utilities, excavation and earth moving.
Computer and Excel proficiency are required.
Additional preferred qualifications for the Assistant Project Manager position are:
  • PennDOT ECMS system experience
  • Software: Bluebeam, HCSS HeavyBid and HeavyJob, Asta Powerproject, P6, Foundation, and AutoCAD
  • Ability to travel locally for construction pre-bid conferences, site visits, bid reviews, and other purposes as needed to fully perform the functions of this position.

This Project Engineer position is a full-time, in-person, and permanent position.
