Job description

Position Summary:
The Project Engineer is responsible for developing, maintaining, and coordinating project submittals and creating project schedules to support timely procurement, installation of materials, equipment, and labor forecasting. This position plays a critical role in aligning engineering, procurement, and field operations with project milestones to ensure successful execution of construction projects.
A key responsibility of this role is to assist in identifying, analyzing, and communicating schedule impacts resulting from design changes, procurement delays, scope revisions, or field conditions. The Project Engineer supports the project team by maintaining accurate schedule data, forecasting potential delays, and helping to develop recovery plans that minimize disruption to critical path activities. This position plays a central role in keeping the project team informed and ensuring that schedule and submittal processes are effectively integrated to support successful project delivery.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain submittal logs and tracking systems
  • Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, and design teams to collect and submit shop data, shop drawings, and equipment information
  • Review schedules to ensure submittals and approvals align with procurement and construction milestones
  • Support the project manager in creation of new schedules, schedule maintenance, and updates
  • Work with project manager, superintendent, and field teams to sequence construction activities and identify critical path items
  • Develop detailed CPN or milestone schedules often in Primavera P6 or Microsoft Projects
  • Ensure project schedule includes all long lead and critical path items
  • Assist with Project Submittals: Gather and initiate shop drawing submittals for approval, coordinate with estimators on correct submittals, verify specification sections requiring submittal
  • Track long lead materials & assist in releasing them in a timely fashion to ensure they arrive to the project on time.
  • Assist with assembling and tracking of submitted change orders, revising purchase and releasing materials after change order approval.

Essential skills and experience
  • Project Management Software Proficiency: Expertise in industry-standard scheduling software such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
  • Construction Knowledge: An understanding of construction processes, work activity sequences, and dependencies.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively with diverse project teams.
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to perform complex schedule analyses, evaluate delays, and find solutions to complex problems.
  • Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational and time management skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in schedules, reports, and analysis.

Education/Experience:
Associate's degree (A. A) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or one or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
