Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Project Controls Analyst I to join our Waterloo, Iowa team supporting a diverse portfolio of projects across our Aviation, Transportation, and Water business lines. This is an excellent opportunity for an analytical and detail-oriented professional to develop project controls expertise while working with multidisciplinary project teams on projects that may include transportation infrastructure, bridges and structures, aviation facilities, water infrastructure, and other complex capital programs.
In this role, you will support project managers and operations leaders by monitoring project financial performance, schedules, budgets, forecasts, and reporting. You will work across multiple project management, financial, scheduling, and reporting platforms to collect and analyze data, perform quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC), identify trends and risks, and provide accurate information that supports sound business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support project controls activities from project setup through closeout, including cost, schedule, forecasting, progress measurement, and reporting.
  • Assist with establishing and maintaining project work breakdown structures (WBS), cost baselines, budgets, schedules, and other project controls systems.
  • Monitor project budgets, expenditures, commitments, revenue, profitability, and cash flow, identifying trends, variances, and potential risks.
  • Assist Project Managers with monthly forecasting, including estimates at completion (EAC), labor hours, costs, and revenue.
  • Collect and analyze project progress, cost, schedule, and performance data to support project reporting and decision-making.
  • Support earned value management, progress measurement, change management, contingency tracking, and risk analysis.
  • Review project financial documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established QA/QC procedures.
  • Assist with monthly project billing, including review of contract terms, approved rates, expenses, subcontractor costs, and project progress.
  • Track purchase orders, subconsultant and subcontractor commitments, expenditures, and outstanding invoices.
  • Prepare project financial reports, forecasts, and management summaries using multiple financial and project management platforms.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Operations Leaders, and finance teams across Aviation, Transportation, Bridges and Structures, and Water projects.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • BA/BS + None or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 years of experience in project controls, project accounting, financial management, scheduling, or a related role.
  • Experience supporting engineering, construction, infrastructure, or other professional services projects.
  • Familiarity with project financial systems and other project management platforms.
  • Basic understanding of project controls fundamentals, including WBS, cost and schedule baselines, forecasting, earned value, progress measurement, and change management.
  • Strong attention to detail with demonstrated ability to perform QA/QC of financial information, project documentation, reports, and data across multiple systems.
  • Familiarity with project revenue, cost, billing, purchase orders, subcontract commitments, and accounts receivable processes.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the ability to learn and effectively use multiple project controls and financial platforms.
