Assistant Professor (Continuing Track), School of Music and Department of Languages, Literatures & Cultures
The School of Music and the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures in the College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a Continuing Track Assistant Professor with a joint appointment (60% in the School of Music and 40% in the Department of Languages, Literatures & Cultures) who specializes in Ethnomusicology and Korean Studies.
Continuing Track (CT) faculty are full-time, benefits-eligible faculty members of the University of Delaware who are employed on continuing renewable contracts. CT faculty with terminal degrees hold professorial rank and have a path to promotion up to full professor. All CT faculty are eligible for sabbaticals and have opportunities to pursue research.
QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The selected candidate will have a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology or a related field, a minimum of two years of college-level teaching experience as the instructor of record in Korean language and culture courses, and a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching undergraduate courses in Ethnomusicology and Korean language and culture. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to provide high-quality, communicative-based instruction and work effectively with students of diverse backgrounds.
Responsibilities within the School of Music will include teaching ethnomusicology courses for undergraduate music majors, M.M. topics courses in ethnomusicology, and general education courses in world music that are/can be cross-listed with Asian Studies. Responsibilities within the DLLC will include teaching all levels of Korean language (composition, grammar, and oral communication), as well as Korean culture classes taught in English. Preferred qualifications include experience in program development and grant writing, along with research and teaching experience in cross-border studies in Asia, given the automatic affiliation with the Asian Studies faculty. The selected candidate will provide essential service to both departments as assigned by the department chairs. This may include committee work, student advising, recruitment, and retention.

The Department of Languages, Literature & Cultures (DLLC) (https://www.dllc.udel.edu) currently offers Korean language and culture courses. The DLLC builds language competency and cultural knowledge and understanding, preparing students to become global citizens. It offers a broad range of languages and courses of study-from antiquity to present-day and from around the world-and prepares students for a range of careers. DLLC hosts numerous study abroad programs, led by its own faculty. Through research and publication, the Department advances scholarship in the discipline, furthering the critical understanding of world culture in its complexity and diversity.
The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is the largest college at the University of Delaware, comprising 22 academic departments, 2 academic centers, and 35 interdisciplinary centers, programs, and institutes across the arts, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences.
