DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC AFFAIRS & ADMINISTRATION ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (2 POSITIONS)

THE UNIVERSITY: California State University, East Bay (CSUEB) is a comprehensive university serving the San Francisco Bay Area/Silicon Valley. It is a designated Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and an Asian American & Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution (AANAPISI). The university offers bachelorโ€™s degrees in 49 fields, minors in 52 fields, masterโ€™s degrees in 34 fields, 16 credential programs, 18 certificate options, and 1 doctoral degree program.

THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Public Affairs and Administration offers a Master of Public Administration (MPA) and an M.S. in Health Care Administration (MS-HCA). The MPA program has more than 200 students and focuses on Public Management and Public Policy or Health Care Administration. The MS-HCA program has over 225 students and is offered fully online.

DUTIES: Successful candidates will teach graduate courses and advise studentsโ€”preferably in both the MPA and MS-HCA programsโ€”maintain active research portfolios, assist the department with administrative and committee work, and assume campus-wide committee responsibilities. Both programs are fully online; candidates should demonstrate experience teaching online and include any professional development relevant to online teaching. Teaching assignments may include courses at the Hayward campus, Concord Center, or online.

RANK AND SALARY: Assistant Professor (2 positions). Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Salary range will be provided in the full announcement.

DATE OF APPOINTMENT: Fall Semester, 2027.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Earned doctorate in public administration or a related field; ABDs considered if the Ph.D. is completed by August 2027.
  • Broad-based expertise in core public administration curricular areas such as leadership, policy, finance and budgeting, quality assessment and improvement, and strategic planning. Preferred candidates have expertise in health care administration.
  • Background in teaching public administration and public management at the graduate level, with a demonstrated background in both public administration and health care administration teaching and/or research preferred.
  • Record of scholarly achievement and an active research agenda. Experience creating research and community involvement opportunities for diverse student populations is preferred.
  • Experience in university and/or community service, including substantive leadership, committee participations, and administrative roles. Candidates should explain how they plan to build a record of service at various levels of CSUEB while fulfilling instructional and research goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to diversity and excellence, including effective university-level teaching style and advising/mentoring students from diverse backgrounds.

To be recommended for tenure, candidates must demonstrate performance in teaching, research, scholarship and/or creative activities, and service to the university, profession, and community.
