Clark Builders is looking for a Senior Accountant who will lead all fiscal management and financial administration aspects of project. Ensure all team members, including Project Manager, Superintendent, and Coordinators follow company financial policy and procedures, and communicate any potential profitability or risk to management. procedures.

Reporting to: Accounting Manager, Operational Finance

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Set up, lead, oversee and implement procedures for mega project ($200MM+) include complex contract types, joint ventures, speciality building types and national clients, etc.
  • Ensure client contractual requirements are met in regard to billing and accounts receivable, including client contract analysis to determine the billing deadlines, payments terms, billable and non-reimbursable expenses, agreements for insurance and fee billings along with approved billing rates for staff and/or trade labor.
  • Create supportive environment to develop high performing finance team on the project, provide training opportunities and engage in mentoring relationships.
  • Supervise assistant accountants and/or accounting clerks, provide timely performance feedback and contribute to performance appraisals during annual performance cycle, utilizing talent management systems.
  • Regularly audit client billing and project ledger, ensure contract requirements, GAAP and company policies are met.
  • Implement and maintain internal control safeguards for project.
  • Manage accounts payable for vendor invoice processing, ensure proper sales and use tax are accounted for and responsible for keeping accounts up to date for assigned projects.
  • Manage accounts payable for subcontractor invoice processing, ensure all applicable lien waivers are submitted and contracts and insurance requirements are in place prior to scheduling payments. Report any subcontractor payment issues to project team.
  • Manage month-close process ensuring all client bills and project costs are posted or accrued if work is in place and of material value.
  • Update monthly projects assets and rentals for insurance documentation with project team.
  • Manage project financial closeout along with project team. Ensure final contract amount and closeout documentation requirements are met and agreed to by subcontractors prior to issuing final payments.
  • Responsible for cash position reporting with respect to net assets, liabilities, and unfunded work in place, communicate any potential risks or profitability to project team.
  • Assist with all internal and external audit requests.
  • Coordinate preparation of financial reports, special analyses and informational reports for project.
  • Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field, and 5 years related experience or equivalent combination of education or experience
  • Construction industry experience preferred
  • Supervisory/management of small team preferred
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and company policies, able to educate and enforce policies
  • Ability to read and understand financial reports
  • Analytic ability to review and assess financial data, interpret trends, and recognize inconsistencies
  • Apply critical thinking to manage through complex decisions and judgments
  • Understand accounting implications of various contract terms
  • Display actions related to profitability and risk management and effectively communicates risk management issues
  • Exercise independent judgment and discretion with ability to identify problems and initiate corrective action
  • Apply innovation to offer and implement suggestions to improve overall operations
  • Ability to manage competing activities, requests, and short-cycle deadlines simultaneously
  • Able to observe performance and effectively provide performance feedback
  • Must have high proficiency in financial system applications, SAP and Textura experience, advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Self-motivated, adaptable and flexible to operate with minimal direction and little or no supervision while working in complex and changing environment
  • Lead by example and set standards for performance and behavior; act with integrity and professionalism, strong dedication to teamwork
