Job description
The Department of Geology and Geophysics in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2027. We seek applicants who will develop an internationally recognized research program investigating the chemical processes that govern the evolution of Earth and other planetary bodies using field observations, laboratory experiments, analytical techniques, and/or theoretical or computational approaches. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, crust-mantle interactions, magma generation and differentiation, metamorphic processes, planetary differentiation, and the origin and distribution of critical mineral resources.
The successful candidate will establish a vibrant externally funded research program, mentor graduate and undergraduate students, collaborate across (sub)disciplinary boundaries, and provide service to the department and/or college. This position builds on the department's strengths in Earth materials, geochemistry, tectonophysics, and geophysics, and aligns with university and national priorities in critical minerals, natural hazards, and planetary exploration. The successful candidate is expected to actively pursue funding opportunities from agencies including the National Science Foundation (NSF), Department of Energy (DOE), and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) etc.
The successful candidate will contribute to the department's undergraduate and graduate teaching mission by teaching introductory and upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses such as Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology and related courses in the candidate's area of interest. The hire will also enhance student training through research experiences that prepare graduates for careers in academia, industry, government, and national laboratories. Texas A&M University is a Hispanic-serving, land-, sea-, and space-grant university, located at the center of the Bryan/College Station metro area with a dynamic and international community of over 270,000 people. Information about the Department of Geology & Geophysics can be found at: http://artsci.tamu.edu/geology-geophysics. The University is aware that attracting and retaining exceptional faculty often depends on meeting the needs of two careers and therefore has a Dual Career Program.
Qualifications
Ph.D. in Geology, Geophysics, or a related research discipline at the time of appointment. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
Application Instructions
Application reviews will begin on October 1, 2026, and will continue until the position is filled. Interested applicants must apply through the Texas A&M University faculty job board hosted by Interfolio https://apply.interfolio.com/188991 and upload the following:
