Faculty and students address fundamental and applied challenges in solid-state physics, photonics, biophysics, atomic and molecular physics, astrophysics, and various other areas. Additional information can be found at: https://physics.unt.edu/.
UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.
Position Overview
The Department of Physics at the University of North Texas (UNT) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level, with competitive startup, salary, and benefit packages. The candidate's research should be in the area of Biophysics (experimental). Candidates are expected to develop a vigorous and externally funded research program, teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels, mentor student research, and provide service to the department, university and community. An offer of employment for this position will be made dependent upon available funding.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in physics or a closely related discipline and demonstrate a commitment to teaching. A minimum of one year of postdoctoral experience, or equivalent professional experience after the Ph.D. is required.
Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.
Preferred Qualifications
We seek an outstanding experimentalist within the broad area of biophysics, who can develop and lead both independent and collaborative research programs. Areas of research may include medical physics, biomaterials, or biophotonics. Ideally, the candidate might bridge and complement our department's state-of-the-art physics-focused research with more direct experience and connections to human health and the associated funding sources. Related department research areas include (1) the UNT Ion Beam Laboratory, with research for instance into how ionizing radiation interacts with biological systems or in the mappings of elemental distributions in biological samples with proton induced x-ray emission spectroscopy, or (2) research on boron induced aneutronic reactions for cancer treatment, or (3) the area of biophotons, that are thought to mediate inter-process physiological communication, and their detection may open new directions in oncology.
