Job description

Summary Statement

This level describes licensed psychology work.\r\n

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nPsychological Assistant\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Interviews clients; administers, scores and interprets results of standard and complex psychological and vocational tests. Participates in making diagnoses; plans program of treatment and gives individual and group therapy to person with minor through major disorder.\r\n Confers with others such as staff, state and private agencies, community service agencies, courts, schools, police and families.\r\n Writes reports and may assist in program development.\r\n May provide individual services where needed including making home visits.\r\n May direct the work of lower level personnel.\r\n May work in a psychiatric emergency setting on a temporary or fulltime basis.\r\n May perform functions which include responsibility for a program area.\r\n May testify as an expert witness in court.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nPsychologist\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Selects, administers, scores and interprets a wide variety of psychological tests to measure and evaluate intelligence, achievement, personality, interests and other mental characteristics.\r\n Interviews and observes individuals at play, in group interactions, or other situations to detect indications of mental deficiency, abnormal behavior, or maladjustment.\r\n Communicates with public, private and state agencies, community service organizations, courts, schools, police and families in order to develop effective treatment strategies.\r\n Analyzes information to assess individual problems.\r\n Evaluates the relevance and importance of psychological theories, concepts and principles.\r\n Identifies symptoms, makes diagnoses and develops approach to treatment.\r\n Develops and implements treatment plans, evaluates effectiveness and adapts plans.\r\n Engages individuals in assisting in the identification of their emotional problems and in the identification of a variety of interventions to assist in addressing these issues.\r\n Provides psychotherapy and other various treatments to individuals, groups and/or families.\r\n Conducts psychological practice according to the ethical standards of psychology.\r\n Writes progress notes and reports regarding test interpretation, evaluation and individual progress.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\nJOB REQUIREMENTS for Psychological Assistant \r\n\r\nApplicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:\r\n\r\n Registered as a Delaware Psychological Assistant oreligible for registration in Delaware. \r\n\r\nJOB REQUIREMENTS for Psychologist \r\nApplicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:\r\n\r\n Possession of a doctoral degree in psychology. \r\n Possession of a Delaware Psychologist license or eligibility for a Delaware Psychologist license.\r\n\r\n

Conditions of Hire

As a condition of hire, if the applicant does not possess a Delaware Psychologist license, the applicant must agree as a requirement of employment to obtain a Delaware Psychologist license within 6 months. Failure to obtain the Delaware license within this timeframe will result in termination of employment.\r\nApplicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. The State of Delaware Executive Branch participates in the Federal E-Verify system where the State will provide the federal government with each new hires Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S. For more information refer to our job seeker resources.\r\nPre-employment Drug Testing: Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre-employment drug testing as part of the hiring process.\r\nCriminal background check: A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire. The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.\r\nAll new hires are required to report to the Statewide New Employee Orientation (SNEO) on their first day of employment. Sessions are held at designated locations in Kent or New Castle County.\r\n
