Assistant Operations Manager
Snapshot:

Elliot Company, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Operations Manager to support the day-to-day operations of our business unit by partnering closely with the Division Director, Operations Managers, General Foremen, and field leadership. In this role, you'll help drive operational performance through workforce planning, project tracking, reporting, resource coordination, and business analytics. The ideal candidate is highly organized, analytical, and passionate about supporting field operations in a fast-paced utility construction environment.
Overview:
The Assistant Operations Manager plays a key role in supporting operational excellence across multiple projects and crews. This position serves as a liaison between field operations and administrative functions, ensuring efficient communication, workforce utilization, project performance tracking, and resource coordination. The role is responsible for developing and maintaining operational reports and dashboards, analyzing workforce and project data, and providing business insights that support operational decision-making. The Assistant Operations Manager partners with leadership to improve productivity, optimize resources, and enhance overall business performance.
A Day in the Life:
  • Partner with Division Director and Operations Managers to support daily operational activities across multiple projects and crews.
  • Monitor workforce utilization, manpower allocation, crew productivity, and project staffing needs.
  • Assist with planning and coordinating labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractor resources.
  • Support General Foremen in tracking project progress, production quantities, schedules, and key performance indicators.
  • Coordinate communication between field leadership, project management, accounting, and corporate support departments.
  • Participate in operational planning meetings and provide reporting to support decision-making.
  • Assist with onboarding, workforce assignments, and manpower forecasting activities.
  • Maintain operational records and ensure project documentation is accurate and up to date.
  • Review and distribute customer invoices in a timely manner.
  • Create, maintain, and distribute operational reports and dashboards using Microsoft Excel.
  • Analyze labor hours, production data, job costs, equipment usage, and project trends.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly performance reports for operations leadership.
  • Track key operational metrics and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements.
  • Support budget forecasting, cost tracking, and operational planning initiatives.
  • Assist with project startup, closeout, and ongoing administrative support activities.
  • Monitor project performance against schedules, budgets, and operational objectives.
  • Support contract compliance, customer reporting, and operational documentation requirements.
  • Lead or support special projects focused on operational improvement and workforce planning.
  • Serve as a trusted resource and backup for critical operational functions as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
    Qualifications & Skills:
  • Associate's Degree in Business Administration, Construction Management, Accounting, Finance, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience supporting operations, project coordination, workforce management, or business analytics in a utility, construction, contracting, or industrial environment.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, data analysis, and reporting dashboard creation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience preparing operational, workforce, productivity, or financial reports.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with field and office personnel.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Accounting, or related field preferred.
  • Experience supporting utility construction, electric distribution, transmission, telecommunications, gas, or infrastructure projects preferred.
  • Experience working directly with General Foremen, Superintendents, or field leadership teams preferred.
  • Knowledge of workforce planning, job costing, production tracking, and operational performance metrics preferred.
  • Experience with ERP, project management, or construction management software preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Effective relationship-building and stakeholder management skills.
  • Data-driven decision-making and problem-solving capabilities.
