Description
This position provides hardware and software support to students, faculty, and staff users. The position is accountable for installing and maintaining all new LAN hardware/software, maintaining the campus-wide LAN backup system, monitoring network management software, and recording technology inventories for infrastructure and telephone support for general hardware and software issues. The position is also responsible for server administration duties. This position is located on the Trinidad Main Campus and will work with the Director of Technology to meet the needs of both the Trinidad Main Campus and the Valley (Alamosa) Campus. This position will liaise with CCCS IT support for LAN/WAN and server technical support.
Examples of Duties
General IT Support
  • Supervises temporary IT employees, such as student work-study and volunteers. Provides daily guidance, training, and technical support in the setup, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of personal computers.
  • Works with other IT Staff to manage and maintain the client-side operations of administration and instructional desktop computers. Coordinate the installation and maintenance of personal computers running Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office Suites, Anti-Virus software, and other software as needed.
  • Makes recommendations on internal and external computer parts and peripherals, as well as campus computer systems, based on users' needs, benchmark test results, manufacturer's reputation for service support and reliability, and price performance, with particular emphasis on networking technologies.
  • Installs software on campus computers and network servers, including but not limited to determining installation needs, installing new software, and upgrading existing software packages. Ensures software license compliance with the standards set by the Software Publishers Association and the Business Software Alliance.
  • Provides ongoing support for the installation and maintenance of the BDMS/Document Imaging software and associated hardware.
  • Provides technical support in the college's Information Technology (IT) department for the entire Trinidad State user base in-person and as a backup Help Desk assistant.

Network and Server Administration
  • Physically lays out and maintains a LAN/WAN/WLAN by configuring and installing hardware, including cabling, connections, components, servers, access points, switches, and routers for the Trinidad State production and public networks.
  • Server administration, including DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, DFS, Printer Installations, User Account creation and maintenance, Backup, etc., for the Trinidad State networks.
  • Consults with departments to determine the needs for specific projects, analyzes the results, and recommends software that will open on existing systems. Collaborates with campus staff at all levels to determine computer needs for special functions, training, or relocation of computer equipment in offices.
  • Provides backup support for Windows server hardware installation, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Server administration, including DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, DFS, Printer Installations, User Account creation and maintenance, Backup, etc., for the Trinidad State production network.
  • Other Duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree with OR in lieu of degree, two years' experience in Network and Systems Management
  • Knowledge of and experience with LAN/WAN/WLAN hardware/software
  • Ability to work in a self-directed manner
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Must be willing to travel between Trinidad and Alamosa campuses
  • Be able to multitask and function in an environment of frequently changing priorities
