Job description

SUMMARY: We are looking for an innovative Network Engineer/Communications Specialist for Hurricane Relief Efforts when activated. As the Network Engineer, your duties will include evaluating organizational needs and recommending suitable technical solutions during deployment to Hurricane impacted areas within Texas and Louisiana.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • All candidates must be able to deploy with little or no advance notice to support logistics operations for Hurricane events within Texas or Louisiana for an extended period of time.
  • Deployments may include working in excess of eight hours a day, or in excess of 40 hours per week, including weekends and holidays, and under stressful, physically demanding, and extreme weather conditions.
  • When activated and deployed, you are entitled to lodging, transportation, and per diem reimbursements for authorized expenses
  • Overseeing and supporting Network/Communication management functions in support of Incident Command Center Operations
  • Assist in establishing Incident Command Facilities including Branch Operations setup. Track maintain Network/Communications support required to sustain site operations.
  • Coordinating with internal and external stakeholders on network/communications management issues and provide guidance when required
  • Assist in the development of plans, goals, and objectives for emergency site operations
  • Track and maintain accountability of government-owned equipment and materials assigned during operations
  • Assists users to achieve optimum use of their computer networks by performing needs analysis, procurement support, installation, and problem resolution for the local and wide area networks.
  • Defines and implements solutions to integrate desktop and shared devices into local and wide area networks and/or other host-based networks.
  • Recommends appropriate computer tools to users, including equipment software, documentation, and training.
  • Acts as software support, providing technical assistance to end-users; responds to user requests for service and determines nature and extent of support required; provides support of refers to appropriate staff member.
  • Installs, configures, maintains and troubleshoots a wide range of software; performs hardware/software upgrades to existing computer equipment as needed.
  • Responds to software problem calls on site or over the phone for users; investigates error messages and determines resolution; reinstalls programs or replaces files that are causing errors; investigates appropriate areas of potential problem and determines resolution.
  • Analyze users' needs; recommends appropriate network configurations to meet users needs and departmental standards.
  • Implements and maintains bridges, routers, gateways, remote access servers, domain servers, security firewalls, application and device servers and Internet or Intranet devices and connections.
  • Designs, configures, monitors and optimizes local and wide area networks and printers for optimal performance, maximum availability, minimal maintenance, and reasonable costs.
  • Performs preventative and fault isolation maintenance on the local and wide area networks.
  • Performs file maintenance on servers, domains, electronic post offices, and user files and/or databases.
  • Designs, configures, maintains, and manages network security features for local and wide area networks.
  • Configures, monitors, and maintains anti-virus programs to ensure network and systems integrity; adds and deletes users as required on network servers and applications.
  • Maintains up-to-date expertise in the operation and application of standard microcomputer software and a working knowledge of a variety of commonly used hardware and software.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in related field or equivalent preferred but not required.
  • 8 years related experience or equivalent. Must possess experience with troubleshooting; routing, bridging, gateways and MESH systems.
