Weld Automation Engineer - Salt Lake City, UT
40 hrs/week | Flexible start time | Up to 40% travel (Michigan and Colorado Springs, 2-3 day trips) | Onsite - local candidates preferred
About the Role
We're seeking a Weld Automation Engineer to design and support automated welding systems, from fixture design through PLC programming and machine validation.
What You'll Do
  • Design or assist in the design of weld fixtures
  • Establish weld process parameters for equipment
  • Coordinate or assist with weld fixture validation and finished part gauge verification
  • Design, implement, and document control systems for automated equipment
  • Conduct electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic design; program peripheral devices and machine PLCs
  • Coordinate machine debug, power-up, and validation with build and electrical teams
  • Ensure equipment is designed and programmed to customer build specifications using standard techniques

What You Bring
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, schematics, and diagrams
  • Proficiency with welding codes and standards (e.g., AWS D1.1/D1.2/D1.3/D1.6, B2.1/ASME Section IX)
  • Strong working knowledge of FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW welding processes
  • Working knowledge of NDT methods (UT, RT, MT, PT, VT) and weld inspection criteria per ASNT TC-1-A

Nice to Have
  • Certified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor
  • Experience in industrial manufacturing and metal fabrication
  • Experience with on-site audit inspections
  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a related engineering field, or 6+ years of related experience/training in welding automation
