Title: Automation Engineer

Sterling Engineering is seeking an Automation Engineer to support the development, implementation, troubleshooting, and optimization of automated manufacturing systems. This role will focus heavily on robotic applications, PLC programming, automation standards, process improvement, and equipment reliability in a manufacturing environment focused on safety and quality.

Job Duties:
• Develop code for new machines and automated systems
• Assist with implementation and startup of new manufacturing equipment
• Modify and improve existing machine code and automation systems
• Troubleshoot machine, control, and automation issues in production environments
• Work with robotic applications including setup, programming, application, and manipulation
• Participate in cross-functional projects to ensure completion on time and within budget
• Develop project charters and communicate project status with management
• Manage multiple automation and equipment-related projects within manufacturing operations
• Lead automation and process improvement initiatives to improve operational efficiency and quality
• Conduct feasibility studies, cost/benefit analysis, and ROI analysis for automation solutions
• Apply root cause analysis to resolve recurring control and automation issues
• Assist technical support technicians with training, troubleshooting, and programming of production equipment

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Automation Engineering
• Experience with control networks including Ethernet/IP and DeviceNet
• Familiarity with plant manufacturing systems and electrical/control technologies in production environments
• Experience with vision systems, barcode scanning systems, servo controllers, servo systems, and analog/digital signals
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills related to control software and hardware
• Background in robotics setup, programming, applications, and manipulation
• Ability to create automation standards for manufacturing systems
• Experience with PLC ladder logic programming preferred, specifically Allen Bradley and General Electric systems
• Strong communication and teamwork skills within cross-functional environments
