Job description

Position Summary:
The Children's Minister will facilitate the spiritual development of children and their families at Trinity Church NYC. Together with the Priest & Director for CYF and the Youth Minister, the Children's Minister will plan, develop, and lead robust programming for children from birth through 5th Grade including Sunday School, annual retreats, and summer offerings. The Children's Minister will use the traditions, doctrine, and frameworks of the Episcopal Church as the foundation of their work, while ensuring that all children and their families feel fully welcomed and affirmed in Trinity Church's Children's programs. As an active leader in Trinity's Children, Youth, and Family Programs, the Children's Minister will be asked to participate in worship, retreats, and other programs as indicated.
The annual salary range for this position is $66,800 to $83,600.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support the spiritual, emotional, and social development of children at Trinity Church
  • Plan, develop, and implement faith formation programming for children and parents both on and off campus, including Sunday School, retreats, and Summer programs
  • Participate in the life of Trinity Church by maintaining an active and visible presence at Sunday Worship, Coffee Hour, parish events, and other events across Trinity's neighborhood
  • Assist in providing pastoral care to children and their families, making referrals as needed
  • Develop and implement programming for parents which may include peer groups, bible studies, and workshops
  • Assist the Priest & Director in planning and implementing special liturgies, under direction from the Vicar
  • Develop and maintain relationships with children and their parents
  • Establish and develop networks of mutual support with other Children's ministers in and around the Episcopal Church and Episcopal Diocese of New York
  • Coordinate with various Trinity Church departments to coordinate care for children and families encountering
  • Collaborate with the Youth Minister to oversee Trinity Church's Acolyte program.
  • Collaborate with Trinity Church Music staff to support Trinity Youth Chorus, as needed
  • Together with the Youth Minister, manage a team of childcare providers as well as volunteer and part time formation leaders

Fiscal Oversight
  • Enter and track children's program expenses and projections to carefully manage assigned financial resources
  • Support the Children, Youth, and Family department's adherence to all Trinity Church policies, practices, and deadlines relating to Finance

Evaluation and Data
  • Collaborate with Trinity Church departments engaged with Children to ensure that children are tracked across all programs
  • Plan and administer the collection of children and family program data and tracking methods
  • Assist in providing monthly data updates to the departmental director and Vicar
  • Fully utilize the Touchpoint (MyTrinity) tool for tracking, data, communication, and analysis.

Communication
  • Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner and follow up promptly and completely, meet content expectations and deadlines
  • Adhere to confidentiality rules and all other Trinity policies, procedures, and practices
  • Perform all duties in a manner that promotes Trinity Church's mission and values
  • Assume other related responsibilities and special projects as needed

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ACTIVITIES
  • Familiar with trauma-informed care, mental health first aid, and de-escalation
  • Familiar with and comfortable participating in and discussing the doctrine, structure, and worship of the Episcopal Church
  • Good pastoral, customer service, and/or hospitality skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills,
  • Demonstrated commitment to children, especially those experiencing personal or family challenges
  • Collaborative and self-motivated, able to work in a variety of groups and circumstances
  • Work on Sundays required, occasional evening or overnight responsibilities

REQUIRED AND PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CREDENTIALS
  • Undergraduate Degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience required
  • Experience in human services, social work within the public sector, youth faith formation, or community outreach
  • Experience working with New York City youth from a variety of backgrounds in formal and informal settings

Experience administrating programs with youth in community, church, or school settings
