Job description

USAM DC, a high-end architectural millwork firm base in Northern VA, is looking for a Field Superintendent to act as the primary on-site leader for custom millwork installation projects for our facility in Manassas, VA. This role is responsible for coordinating installation, verifying field conditions, managing material flow, ensuring quality and schedule alignment, and maintaining clear communication between general contractors, project managers, installers, and the shop. 

The Field Superintendent is a field-first, hands-on role, accountable for daily jobsite execution from pre-installation through final walkthrough.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work with blueprints and effectively read and interpret architectural and millwork shop drawings. 

  • Coordinate and oversee daily installation activities on active jobsites to ensure work is up to project specifications and AWI standards. 

  • Supervise and coordinate installation crews and subcontracted labor on-site. 

  • Work on ladders, lifts, and other equipment as necessary. 

  • Take precise field measurements along with layout (often digitally on a tablet) for custom architectural millwork including casework, tops, wall panels, desks, and other specialty items, with laser measuring devices or similar field measurement tools. 

  • Use levels, tape measure, chalk box, framing squares, and surveying equipment to verify site conditions. 

  • Perform job checks and verify logistics information for jobsites. 

  • Receive, verify, and help foreman manage delivery of millwork and related materials. 

  • Inspect materials upon arrival for damage, completeness, and conformance to specifications. 

  • Coordinate material staging, protection, and accessibility within the jobsite. 

  • Communicate material shortages, damages, or discrepancies in a timely manner. 

  • Anticipate and problem-solve jobsite conditions and installation issues. 

  • Review project punch list and execute plan to complete. 

  • Manage warranty and callback work as needed. 

  • Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for jobsite coordination with field personnel, architects and project management. 

  • Attend and lead site meetings as needed, clearly communicating jobsite conditions and updates. 

  • Maintain professional relationships with clients through effective communication and problem solving. 

  • Monitor installation progress to ensure work is progressing according to schedule and provide feedback to clients and project managers. 

  • Manage daily schedules and tasks as assigned. 

  • Provide daily or periodic jobsite updates, including photo documentation as needed. 

  • Travels to multiple job sites daily, mostly in the surrounding area of the manufacturing facility. 

  • Assist project management with take offs, work orders, and other items as needed. 

  • Other tasks and assignments as directed.  

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 

Preferred Education and Skills (in addition to the required): 

  • Experience using laser measuring devices or similar field measurement systems (e.g., Leica Disto or equivalent) 

  • Familiarity with Bluebeam 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Business, or a related field 

Required Education and Skills: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent 

  • 10+ years of experience in commercial construction, millwork installation, or field supervision 

  • Proficient with field verifications and field dimensions   

  • Proficient computer skills in MS Office Suite products 

  • Proficient with field technology (tablets, smartphones, digital plans)  

  • Working knowledge of AWI requirements and guidelines  

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines 

  • Ability to read and comprehend architectural drawings and technical specifications 

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with fluctuating priorities and deadlines 

  • Ability to work in a dusty and noisy construction site environment   

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds 

  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams 

  • Must have reliable personal vehicle, with a valid drivers’ license and good driving record 

  • Must be able to travel to jobsites; some overnight travel may be required  

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

  • Reliable attendance and consistent work schedule
