Job description

Adjunct Faculty are hired each semester on an as-needed basis. Adjunct Faculty are responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided.
โ€ข Facilitates student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with college policy and course objectives.
โ€ข Makes optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.
โ€ข Develops/maintains course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials. Maintains accurate student records, grades, and other requirements.
โ€ข Engages with students in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and leads to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College, shows evidence of developing and implementing active classroom teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning (curricular).
โ€ข Interacts with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complies with college policies, campus guidelines and expectations.
โ€ข Ensures knowledge of and implements emergency and safety procedures for classrooms, labs, and all learning environments.

A qualified faculty member teaching HLHS 101 (Medical Terminology) courses meets the Healthcare Specialist program standard or the course standard, whichever standard applies to the specific course. This posting is for non-clinical courses:
The Program Standard is:
โ€ข Possesses an earned baccalaureate or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution; and
โ€ข Has a minimum of 2 years directly related work experience; and
โ€ข Holds certification or licensure in a health care discipline providing care or service directly to patients; or
โ€ข Holds a current Workplace Specialist License granted by the Indiana Department of Education in any Health Science or Dental Careers with relevant medical Terminology coursework.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
โ€ข College level teaching experience.
RETENTION AND STUDENT SUCCESS
โ€ข Provide academic-related coaching and academic monitoring to assigned student advisees in partnership with professional academic advising staff.
โ€ข Monitor and document student performance throughout the semester, including use of technology for academic advising alerts; provide necessary interventions to include communication with students, tutoring and other academic supports, and referrals to appropriate college resources.
โ€ข Maintain posted office hours and student engagement hours in accordance with campus expectations and the faculty loading policy in the Academic Support and Operations Manual (ASOM 7.2).
โ€ข Promote and assist in student recruitment, retention, and successful completion of programs, including outreach to students by phone, technology tools, and other electronic means.

Must have strong working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to area of instruction and meet faculty credentials as outlined in the ASOM 7.1 for the specific area(s) of instruction. Conducts all activities with an appreciation, respect, and promotion of diversity of people, styles, and views.
