Job description

Library Technician

Salary: $17.48/hr. To provide professional, effective, and efficient assistance to fellow co-workers and the general public; to provide a wide variety of highly responsible and complex duties for the Library Department. For full-time positions supervise, schedule and review the Library Technicians responsible for providing circulation services at the Mesquite Public Library Supervision General supervision and performance reviews are provided by the Manager of Public Services.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

All behaviors comply with the Code of Conduct & Rules of Behavior outlined in Chapter 8 of the General Government Policies and Procedures Manual.

Work as a cooperative and supportive member of the Library team.

Provide the best possible customer service to the public by responding to, resolving, or directing to appropriate co-worker's library patron inquiries and complaints.

Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in city and department attendance policies and procedures.

Full-time positions Responsible for circulation staff supervision and performance, including planning work duties, arranging schedules and managing staff performance ranging from hiring to regular reviews and discipline procedures when necessary.

Coordinate all circulation desk services including checking in and out library materials, managing library cards and patron accounts, and performing proper cash handling procedures.

Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; establish circulation desk services; implement policies and procedures.

Use the Integrated Library System to manage circulation tasks.

Part-time positions Assist library patrons in using the library including responding to reference questions, advising patrons on reading material and reviewing the proper usage of library material and equipment.

Assist in organizing and implementing library programs in the library space and throughout the community.

Manage materials ordering and processing as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Job Requirements

Education High School Diploma or GED. Two years of formal or informal education, training, or work experience which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.

Experience Full-time Positions Cash handling experience required. Supervisory experience preferred. Full-time and part-time Positions Library experience preferred. Licenses and Certificates Possession of a valid driver's license.

Work Schedule Applicant will need to be as flexible as it is possible. Staffing for days/times that have not been decided, but it could look something like below: Monday 3-8 Tuesday 3-8 Friday 1-6 Saturday 1-6 Employees must work a minimum of 20 hours per week.
