Job description

Description Title: (Casual Hire) Korean Language Instructors Position Number: CASUAL Hiring Unit: Outreach College, International Programs Location: Manoa Campus Date Posted: November 19, 2025 Closing Date: continuous Salary: $39 - 47, hourly Full Time/Part Time: Part-time Temporary/Permanent: Temporary ****Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawai'i may apply for Casual Hire appointments, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits provided to regular Board of Regents or Civil Service employees. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

Other Conditions: For placement in Instructor applicant pool for 2026, and future semesters. Positions are for short-term, part-time, non-credit instructors with International Programs. Contingent upon registration, position availability, course offerings, departmental need, and funding.

Duties and Responsibilities: Instructors: prepare for and teach all scheduled classes according to the established curriculum guidelines, developing lessons and curriculum as needed; assist students with course material outside of regular class hours as needed; complete program-related administrative responsibilities (keep attendance records, communicate with office, help plan and participate in program events); participate in faculty meetings as assigned. Assistant Lead Instructor (all of above, plus): Assists other instructors with their courses Distributes course fliers for posting. Lead Instructor (all of above, plus): communicates with staff for planning and running the courses Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in KSL/KFL or related fields from a four-year Korean higher education institution taught in Korean; *Related fields usually include Korean, Linguistics, Second Language Studies (SLS), or Education.

A minimum of two (2) years of successful, experience teaching Korean as a Second or Foreign Language (KSL/KFL) to adults in an institutional setting; Familiarity with existing KSL/KFL materials; Functionally native oral and written fluency in Korean; Demonstrated ability to work with adult learners and communicate clearly in English; A well-rounded, extensive knowledge of, and experience with the Korean and American cultures; Familiarity with the Zoom application; Or equivalent competencies for the above listed qualifications Desirable Qualifications Master's degree in KSL/KFL or related fields*, or Master's degree in KSL/KFL or related fields* within one year of completion To Apply: Click on the "Apply" button on the top right corner of the screen and attach the required documents.
