Job description

Works in direct conjunction with the Program Office to provide and apply the technical expertise required to maximize the benefit available to the organization by the use of sound and accepted principles of production and materials control. Coordinate all cost and schedule activity related to system hardware production on behalf of the Program Office. Coordinate and expedite the flow of work and materials within or between departments of TCOM according to production schedule. Duties include generating, reviewing and distributing production, work, and shipment schedules; conferring with department supervisors to determine progress of work and completion dates; pricing and estimating costs for proposal efforts, earned value inputs for all assigned programs; and compiling reports on progress of work, forecasting and maintaining required inventory levels, costs, and devising solutions to production problems. Coordinate and lead other lower classified planners. Demonstrate highest levels of proficiency in all planning functions and possess sufficient knowledge of and familiarity with planning, cost movements and material control procedures.

Working Procedure:ย 

Getting Information โ€” Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.ย 

  • Examples of information gathered include; Proposals, drawings, specifications, schedules, invoices, or flow charts
  • Information will need to be gathered from a variety of departments including; Manufacturing, Engineering, Accounting, Programs, Marketing, Logistics, Quality Assurance, and/or Contracts

Communicating with Supervisors, Peers, or Subordinates โ€” Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.ย 

  • Conduct or attend staff, planning, production and program meetings and relay updated relevant information to the appropriate parties
  • Prepare and present to management, plans and procedures ready for implementation that will comply with contractual requirements while minimizing risks, cost and inventory investment
  • Prepare and conduct technical presentations for customers and other agencies on the application and use of systems, techniques and procedures; planned or applied, in the field of production and materials control involving current or future business

Interacting With Computers โ€” Using computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to program, write software, set up functions, enter data, or process information.ย 

  • Use computers to enter, access, or retrieve data. Including but not limited to email, MS Office, ERP systems

Organizing, Planning, and Prioritizing Work โ€” Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work.ย 

  • Forecast the volume and timing of resources required to meet firm and anticipated customer orders. Such forecasts to include, but are not limited to, manpower (direct and indirect) capacities, volume of input/output, data, documents, etc.
  • Determine time-phased requirements based on the product structure, build sequence and lead time for both firm and anticipated orders
  • Prioritize and expedite materials, documents, information and instructions as needed to support schedule requirements
  • Monitor costs spent, report regularly cost and schedule status
  • Identify, troubleshoot and track earned value status on assigned programs Prepare and conduct technical presentations for customers and other agencies on the application and use of systems, techniques and procedures; planned or applied, in the field of production and materials control involving current or future business
  • Assist the Program Office in preparation of monthly schedule status and reports for customer presentations and reviews

Identifying Objects, Actions, and Events โ€” Identifying information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events.ย 

  • Review proposals and contracts to determine schedule related data requirements. Develop methods and procedures or satisfying these requirements
  • Perform follow-up, check status of, and expedite, where necessary, any information needed to complete tasks assigned
  • Determine ledger and work-in progress inventory requirements applying principles of good inventory planning and management

Monitor Processes, Materials, or Surroundings โ€” Monitoring and reviewing information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems.ย 

  • Analyze and resolve work problems or assist workers or other functional groups in solving work problems and issues
  • Provide recommendations for decision making and problem solving in areas involving production and materials control to management of functional departments and program organizations

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education Requirement:ย Bachelorโ€™s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or related field.

Experience Requirement: Five years as a Senior Production and Material Control Planner, or equivalent. Minimum of twelve yearsโ€™ experience in manufacturing.
