Job description

Controller

Aereos, Inc | Finance & Accounting |  Full-Time

About the Role

Aereos, Inc is seeking a Controller to support the finance team in maintaining cost integrity across manufacturing operations. Reporting to the Fractional CFO, this role owns the day-to-day cost accounting function—standard costs, variance analysis, inventory accounting, and program cost tracking—and serves as the finance department lead in the CFO’s absence. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with ERP systems, a solid grasp of GAAP cost accounting, and comfort working in an aerospace or government contracting environment.

Key Responsibilities

Cost Accounting & Analysis

  • Maintain standard cost records including material, labor, and overhead rates
  • Analyze manufacturing variances and prepare summary reports with supporting explanations
  • Update and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) in the ERP system in coordination with operations and engineering
  • Support job and program cost tracking across production runs and contracts
  • Learn and apply cost allocation methodologies for direct and indirect costs across departments and cost centers

Reporting & Financial Planning

  • Prepare routine cost reports and schedules for CFO review on a monthly and quarterly basis
  • Assist in compiling COGS and gross margin data for financial statement preparation
  • Maintain cost tracking spreadsheets and contribute to cost dashboards and KPI reports
  • Pull and format data from the ERP system to support management reporting needs
  • Support the CFO in the annual budgeting process by gathering historical cost data and preparing input schedules
  • Assist in building and maintaining rolling forecast models for labor, materials, and overhead
  • Track budget-to-actual results and help prepare variance commentary for management review

Inventory & Month-End Close

  • Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records across raw materials, WIP, and finished goods
  • Participate in physical inventory counts and cycle counts; investigate and resolve count discrepancies
  • Support month-end inventory reconciliations in the ERP system

Controls & Compliance

  • Ensure accounting entries are accurate, well-documented, and comply with company policies and GAAP
  • Assist in identifying and escalating discrepancies or control gaps to the CFO
  • Gather and organize documentation to support external audits and internal reviews
  • Support compliance with efforts related to government contracts and aerospace industry requirements as needed

Finance Department Coverage

  • Act as the finance department lead and primary point of contact in the CFO’s absence

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of cost accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing, aerospace, or defense
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Solid understanding of GAAP, standard costing, and variance analysis
  • Hands-on experience with ERP systems (e.g., Epicor, SAGE, NetSuite, or similar)
  • Proficiency in Excel; experience building cost models and dashboards a plus
  • Familiarity with government contracting (FAR/DFARS) and DCAA requirements a plus
  • CPA or CMA in progress or completed preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
