Position: Construction Inspector

Location: Cleveland / Akron, OH and surrounding areas

The Seasonal Construction Inspector supports construction inspection activities during the active construction season, typically from early spring through early winter. 

Responsibilities
  • Inspect construction work on transportation, utility, and infrastructure projects to document conformity to construction standards and specifications.
  • Perform daily field observations, quantity measurements, and documentation of contractor activities.
  • Assist with basic material sampling and testing (concrete, asphalt, soil, aggregates) per INDOT/ODOT procedures.
  • Record data in daily work reports, field books, and supporting documentation systems.
  • Communicate professionally with contractors, clients, and project staff.
  • Report safety concerns, non-conforming work, and field issues promptly.
  • Use construction documentation tools such as AASHTOWare Project or Appia, after training.
  • Maintain accurate photographic documentation of field activities.
  • Assist full-time inspection staff with additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework in civil engineering, construction technology, or related fields preferred.
  • 5+ years of construction inspection experience, ideally for transportation projects
  • Ability to read plans and interpret basic construction details.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and observational skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions for extended periods.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office; Bluebeam familiarity preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • ODOT inspection-related certifications, preferred but not required.

  • Ability to climb, stoop, kneel, bend, and reach as required to observe and inspect construction work 100% of the time.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and travel to various job sites and client meetings 100% of the time.
  • Visual and auditory acuity to observe construction activities, read plans/specifications, and communicate effectively with team members, contractors, and clients 100% of the time.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer, testing equipment, and standard office equipment 100% of the time.
  • Ability to walk and/or stand on uneven terrain as well as up/down/across slopes 100% of the time.
