Job description

Position Summary

We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Industrial Sewing Machine Operator to join our production team in Hickory, NC. This position is responsible for fabricating high-quality custom canopies, awnings, upholstery, banners, and other heavy-duty fabric products using industrial sewing equipment. Prior experience in this space is preferred. The ideal candidate has experience operating industrial sewing machines and enjoys working with large fabrics such as coated fabrics, canvas, acrylic, mesh, and coated materials.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operate industrial walking-foot, single-needle, double-needle, zig-zag, and binding sewing machines.
  • Measure, cut, and sew heavy-duty fabrics including canvas, coated fabrics, acrylic, mesh, and coated textiles.
  • Fabricate custom canopies, awnings, shade products, covers, and related textile products.
  • Read work orders, production drawings, and measurements to ensure accurate fabrication.
  • Install zippers, binding, webbing, hook-and-loop fasteners, grommets, reinforcement patches, and other hardware.
  • Inspect finished products to ensure they meet company quality standards.
  • Identify and report damaged materials or equipment issues.
  • Maintain production records as required.
  • Keep work area clean, organized, and safe.
  • Assist with other production and fabrication duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous industrial sewing experience preferred. Minimum of 1 year experience required in professional sewing.
  • Experience with canvas, coated fabrics, upholstery, marine canvas, or awning fabrication is a plus.
  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure and perform basic math.
  • Ability to read and follow patterns, schematics, and drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Exhibits punctuality, reliable attendance, and positive attitude.
  • Proficient in English.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, bend, reach, sit, crawl on floor (with kneepads), and perform repetitive hand movements throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
  • Ability to handle large rolls of fabric and completed products.

 

Preferred Skills

  • Experience operating Juki, Consew, Adler, Pfaff, or similar industrial sewing machines.
  • Experience with hot knives, fabric cutters, grommet presses, and measuring equipment.
  • Knowledge of Sunbrella®, coated fabrics, and other outdoor textiles.
  • Previous experience in awning, canopy, upholstery, marine canvas, or textile manufacturing.
  • Work in a manufacturing environment that may include noise, dust, temperature changes, and moving equipment.
