Job description

Cardiovascular Care Group Physician Assistant Position

Established in 1963, The Cardiovascular Care Group provides complete care for patients with vascular disease. With New Jersey offices in Essex, Passaic, Union, Morris, Monmouth, and Mercer counties, the Group is able to deliver care in both office-based and hospital settings.

The PA will support the physicians of The Cardiovascular Care Group, ensuring a high level of patient care and patient satisfaction.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Admit any patient requiring hospitalization, as per discussion with MD.
  • Deliver pre-operative and post-operative care to patients within the context of mutually agreed upon practice protocols.
  • Make daily rounds on hospitalized patients and document in the patient record. Record progress notes, determine and implement therapeutic plans jointly, with the supervising physician, compile and record pertinent narrative case summaries.
  • Provide intra-operative and post-operative support to physician.
  • Interview and examine patients and document in the patient record.
  • Consult patients on the wards and in the emergency room.
  • Place percutaneous central venous catheters and/or change over a guide wire (subclavian/internal jugular and femoral)
  • Perform venipuncture, EKGs, A-line insertions, foley catheter insertions, wound debridements and incision and drainage.
  • Provide patient and family education.
  • Initiate, participate in and/or facilitate discharge planning.
  • Answer phone calls from hospital staff and physicians pertaining to care of the patients.
  • Return phone calls to family members of patients at the request of physician
  • Participate in quality assurance and patient satisfaction programs
  • On-call rotational weekend schedule upon completion of training
Skills and Experience:
  • Minimum two years of experience as PA in hospital setting required. Vascular surgery experience a plus.
  • Strong diagnostic skills; effective problem-solver
  • Ability to work under pressure and to handle shifting priorities
  • Deliver care in a professional and reliable manner
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Current certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants and the NJ State Board on the Regulation of Physician Assistants.
  • BLS/ACLS certification
